Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

NEW RIVER HUMANE SOCIETY SERVED 984 CATS/KITTENS AND 1138 DOGS/PUPPIES TOTALING 2122 ANIMALS AT FAYETTE COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL CENTER DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 2022 A 2.46 INCREASE FROM 2021. APPROXIMATELY 717 OF THE PETS WERE BROUGHT IN BY ANIMAL CONTROL/LAW ENFORCEMENT, WHILE THE OTHER 1405 WERE BROUGHT IN BY OWNERS OR CITIZENS WHO FOUND THEM AS STRAYS. OUR STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, AND SUPPORTERS MAKE IT POSSIBLE EACH YEAR FOR US TO OPERATE AS A NO-KILL SHELTER AND CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE VERY BEST FOR EACH ANIMAL. APPROXIMATELY 21 ANIMALS HAD TO BE ULTIMATELY EUTHANIZED DUE TO SEVERE ILLNESS/INJURY OR AGGRESSIVE REASONS AS RECOMMENDED BY VETERINARIANS. FOR THE YEAR 2022, 1762 ANIMALS WERE TRANSFERRED TO REPUTABLE RESCUE PARTNERS, 150 WERE PLACED IN ADOPTIVE HOMES, AND 105 ANIMALS WERE SENT BACK HOME AS THEY WERE RECLAIMED BY THEIR OWNERS.

THE LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO OVER 204 DOG OWNERS AND 358 CAT OWNERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES TO HAVE THEIR PETS SPAYED OR NEUTERED. NEW RIVER HUMANE SOCIETY IS DEDICATED TO REDUCING THE NUMBER OF UNWANTED AND UNPLANNED LITTERS. PET OWNERS COMPLETE AN APPLICATION AND MAKE A DONATION IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A VOUCHER, WHICH CAN BE USED AT ONE OF THREE LOCAL COMMUNITY VETERINARIANS. THIS PROGRAM IS POSSIBLE DUE TO DONATIONS AND GRANTS. WE ALSO WORK TO REDUCE THE FERAL CAT POPULATION IN OUR COMMUNITY BY PARTNERING WITH FAYETTE VETERINARY HOSPITAL IN A COMMUNITY CAT STERILIZATION PROGRAM. THE VET OFFERS SPECIAL WEEKS DURING THE WINTER WHEN THEY ACCEPT FERAL CATS FROM THE COMMUNITY TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED. THEY ALSO TIP THEIR EARS AND THEN THEY ARE RELEASED BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY WHERE THEY WERE TRAPPED.

DURING THE YEAR END 2022, NEW RIVER HUMANE SOCIETY TRANSPORTED 873 DOGS/PUPPIES, 889 CATS/KITTENS, AND 4 GUINEA PIGS TO SAFETY WITH OUR RESCUE TRANSPORT PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM RELIES SOLELY ON VOLUNTEERS TO NETWORK WITH OVER 20 RESCUE PARTNERS IN VA, MD, PA, NY, NJ, AND WV. VOLUNTEERS COORDINATE VETTING ANIMALS AND SCHEDULING TRANSPORT DATES. A TEAM OF 10 VOLUNTEER DRIVERS AVERAGED 2500 MILES PER MONTH TRANSPORTING THESE PETS TO RESCUE. WITHOUT THIS PROGRAM AND THESE PARTNERSHIPS, OUR ORGANIZATION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REMAIN A NO-KILL SHELTER FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
