FOR MORE THAN 138 YEARS, COLUMBUS HUMANE HAS BEEN SHELTERING HOMELESS ANIMALS, FIGHTING ANIMAL CRUELTY AND NEGLECT AND OFFERING PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF ANIMALS IN OUR COMMUNITY. PROGRAMS INCLUDE INVESTIGATING REPORTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AND NEGLECT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO AND PROVIDING SERVICES FOR PETS AND PEOPLE INCLUDING ANIMAL ADOPTION, EMERGENCY SHELTERING FOR THE PETS OF VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND HUMANE EDUCATION. MORE THAN 90 PERCENT OF OUR FUNDING IS PROVIDED BY DONATION AND FEES FOR SERVICES. WE ARE NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND WE DO NOT RECEIVE OPERATING SUPPORT FROM NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. COLUMBUS HUMANE RELIES ON THE SUPPORT OF PRIVATE DONORS AND VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE OUR WORK POSSIBLE.

THE ANIMAL CARE, CLIENT CARE AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH OPERATIONS PROVIDE SERVICES FOR PETS AND PEOPLE INCLUDING ANIMAL ADOPTION, ACCESS TO LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER, EMERGENCY SHELTERING FOR PETS OF VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND REHOMING OPTIONS. WE PROVIDE COMPASSIONATE COUNSELING AND RESOURCES FOR THOSE STRUGGLING TO KEEP THEIR PETS. WE ALSO TAKE IN ALL STRAY COMPANION ANIMALS, EXCEPT FOR DOGS, WHICH GO TO THE FRANKLIN COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL.


ANIMAL CRUELTY INVESTIGATIONS: COLUMBUS HUMANE IS THE LEAD AGENCY IN FRANKLIN COUNTY INVESTIGATING CASES OF ANIMAL CRUELTY, NEGLECT AND ABANDOMENT. THE COMMISSIONED HUMANE AGENTS ENFORCE ALL LOCAL AND STATE LAWS PERTAINING TO THE CARE AND TREATMENT OF ANIMALS AS REPORTED BY MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC AND PARTNER AGENCIES INCLUDING OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, CODE ENFORCEMENT AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES. THE CRUELTY INVESTIGATION TEAM OF SEVEN AGENTS REVIEWED 4,938 REPORTS IN 2021, SEIZED 972 ANIMALS AND PROVIDED SERVICES TO MANY MORE. HUMANE AGENTS ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR RESPONDING TO LARGE SCALE HOARDING CASES OR THOSE INVOLVING ORGANIZED ANIMAL FIGHTING.
