OUR RESCUE/ADOPTION CENTER CONTINUES TO HOUSE UPWARDS OF 50 CATS WHILE AWAITING THEIR PERMANENT HOMES. OUR WEEKLY ADOPTION EVENTS SAW 210 CATS FIND HOMES.WE CONTINUED OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY CATS' CARETAKERS IN THEIR MISSION TO TRAP, ALTER AND VACCINATE BOTH FERAL AND STRAY CATS BEFORE RETURNING THEM TO THEIR FAMILIAR COLONIES.BECAUSE OF THE CONTINUING GENEROSITY OF THE LOCAL WALMART DISTRIBUTION CENTER, WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN OUR PET FOOD BANK, HELPING CARETAKERS OF CAT COLONIES, AS WELL AS INDIVIDUALS IN NEED, FEED THE CATS AND DOGS IN THEIR CARE. IN ADDITION, WE BEGAN A SIMILAR RELATIONSHIP WITH AMAZON, RECEIVING DONATIONS OF CAT AND DOG FOOD, SMALL ANIMAL SUPPLIES, CLEANING SUPPLIES, AND PAPER PRODUCTS. THIS NECESSITATES RENTING A BOX TRUCK, SO WE APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED A $1,000 GRANT FROM THE HANCOCK COUNTY SAVINGS BANK CHARITABLE FOUNDATION TO COVER THE TRUCK RENTAL COST PLUS GASOLINE. FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW, WE RECEIVED A MATCHING GRANT FOR SPAYING AND NEUTERING FROM THE WEST VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. THE 2021 GRANT WAS FOR $7,575.00, AND OUR MATCHING PORTION OF $7,000.00 WAS COVERED BY A GRANT FROM THE CHARLES M. PUGLIESE AND THELMA M. PUGLIESE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. A TOTAL OF 142 ANIMALS (131 CATS AND 11 DOGS) WERE SPAYED OR NEUTERED THROUGH THESE GRANTS. IN ADDITION TO THE ANIMALS SPAYED AND NEUTERED THROUGH THE GRANTS, THE HCHF ALSO PAID FOR THE SPAYING AND NEUTERING OF AN ADDITIONAL 250 ANIMALS.WE PAID FOR EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE ON MANY OCCASIONS, ELIMINATING ANIMALS' SUFFERING AND ENABLING THEIR RECOVERY.WE PURCHASED AND SET UP TWO INCUBATORS TO WARM AND STABILIZE YOUNG KITTENS AND TO TREAT ADULT CATS IN NEED. THESE WERE PAID FOR WITH A GRANT FROM THE RUTH HORNBROOK MEMORIAL FUND, THOUGH THE PARKERSBURG AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, AND THROUGH A DONATION FROM A PRIVATE DONOR.WE CONTINUED TO MAKE NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS TO OUR BUILDING, REPLACING AND REROUTING OUR HVAC DUCTING THROUGH A GRANT FROM THE CHARLES M. PUGLIESE AND THELMA M. PUGLIESE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. WITH THE GRANT MONEY THAT WAS LEFT OVER WE ADDRESSED THE DAMP BASEMENT ISSUES BY REPLACING GUTTERS THAT WERE TOO SMALL WITH 6-INCH GUTTERS AND ADDING TWO ADDITIONAL DOWNSPOUTS, CLEANING AND REMOVING THE MOLD ON THE BLOCK WALLS, AND THEN APPLYING PRIMER, DRYLOK, AND PAINT. WE ALSO INSTALLED A VENT AND PIPING TO VENT THE CLOTHES DRYER TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING.SUPPLEMENTAL HEATING WAS ADDED TO OUR INTAKE AND KITTEN ROOMS THROUGH THE INSTALLATION OF 3 ELECTRIC 220V HEATERS IN THE RECOVERY, RECEIVING & KITTEN ROOMS, AND THE BASEMENT WIRING WAS CLEANED UP.
