FOUNDED IN 1961, THE WESTERN HISTORY ASSOCIATION EXISTS TO PROMOTE THE STUDY OF THE NORTH AMERICAN WEST IN ITS VARIED ASPECTS AND BROADNEST SENSE.

ORGANIZATION PROMOTES THE STUDY OF THE NORTH AMERICAN WEST THROUGH ORGANIZING AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND SUPPORTING TWO JOURNALS: THE WESTERN HISTORICAL QUARTERLY AND THE MONTANA: THE MAGAZINE OF WESTERN HISTORY. MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS HAVE BEEN AROUND 950 THIS YEAR AND ARE MORE CURRENT THAN EVER BEFORE AS WE ARE USING NEW MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE.
AWARDS GIVEN TO AUTHORS, PUBLISHERS, AND STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BECAUSE OF THEIR OUTSTANDING WRITING ON HISTORICAL ISSUES. FOURTY-SIX (46) RECIPIENTS WERE CHOSEN BY THE BOARD OF COMMITTEES TO RECEIVE THE AWARDS.
