PUBLICATIONS - (NEW) IN MID-2020, ASPB ENTERED AN AGREEMENT WITH OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS (OUP) TO PRODUCE AND DISSEMINATE TWO OF ITS JOURNALS - PLANT PHYSIOLOGY AND THE PLANT CELL - BEGINNING WITH THE JANUARY 2021 ISSUES. A THIRD JOURNAL, PLANT DIRECT, IS PUBLISHED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SOCIETY FOR EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGY AND WILEY. PLANT PHYSIOLOGY PRIMARILY PUBLISHES FULL-LENGTH PAPERS CONTAINING NEW RESULTS IN PLANT PHYSIOLOGY, BIOCHEMISTRY, CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, BIOPHYSICS, SYNTHETIC AND SYSTEMS BIOLOGY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY OF PLANTS AND ASSOCIATED ORGANISMS. THE PLANT CELL PUBLISHES CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH PAPERS IN CELLULAR, MOLECULAR, AND DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY OF PLANTS. PLANT DIRECT COVERS ALL OF THESE AREAS; IT IS A SOUND SCIENCE, OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL. ASPB ALSO PUBLISHES A BI-MONTHLY PRINT AND ONLINE NEWSLETTER (ASPB NEWS) AND A WEEKLY EMAIL NEWSLETTER (THE SIGNAL) THAT INCLUDE GENERAL SOCIETY NEWS ITEMS, PROFILES OF PROMINENT PLANT SCIENTISTS, AND OTHER INFORMATION OF VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY IT SERVES. ASPB HAS ALSO SELF- AND CO-PUBLISHED A NUMBER OF TEXT BOOKS RELATED TO VARIOUS ASPECTS OF PLANT BIOLOGY.
MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES - ANNUAL MEETING - THE ANNUAL PLANT BIOLOGY CONFERENCE PROVIDES A FORUM FOR THE PRESENTATION OF SCIENTIFIC DATA, EDUCATION, THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND NETWORKING AMONG PLANT SCIENTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. THE COVID PANDEMIC REQUIRED A RAPID PIVOT TO HOLDING A FULLY ONLINE CONFERENCE IN 2020, AND AMIDST THE CONTINUING PANDEMIC, THE 2021 CONFERENCE WAS CONVENED ONLINE AS WELL. PLANT SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY 2021 - IN 2019, ASPB CONVENED AN IN-PERSON PLANT SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY CONFERENCE AS AN ADDENDUM TO ITS PLANT BIOLOGY CONFERENCE IN SAN JOSE. TO CONTINUE TO NURTURE THE NASCENT PLANT SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY COMMUNITY ASPB CONVENED AN ONLINE CONFERENCE ON THIS TOPIC IN 2021. THE CONFERENCE WAS SUPPORTED BY A MIX OF REGISTRATION REVENUES, SPONSORSHIPS, AND EXHIBITORS.
MEMBER SERVICES: THE SOCIETY SERVES APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MEMBERS, 40% OF WHOM ARE INTERNATIONAL. KEY MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS INCLUDE ELECTRONIC ACCESS TO THE SOCIETY'S JOURNALS, NEWSLETTER, AND MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY; DISCOUNTS ON PUBLICATIONS AND REDUCED REGISTRATION FEES FOR MEETINGS.
