OUR VISION IS TO ENCOURAGE, SUPPORT AND SUSTAIN EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE FOR STUDENTS IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA. OUR MISSION IS TO CARRY ON THE LEGACY AND SPIRIT OF OUR NAMESAKE, MARTHA MASON HILL, BY GIVING COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO CURRENT YEAR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING STUDENTS, AND TO CONDUCT OUTREACH PROJECTS THAT HELP PRE-K THROUGH UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE STUDENTS SUCCEED ACADEMICALLY. ON THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, OUR OUTREACH EFFORTS FOCUS ON HELPING PRE-K - 8TH GRADE SCHOOLS WITH HIGH PERCENTAGES OF STUDENTS FROM LOW INCOME FAMILIES (FAMILIES THAT QUALIFY FOR THE FREE LUNCH PROGRAM IN TITLE ONE SCHOOLS).

THE MARTHA MASON HILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED IN HONOR OF THE LATE MARTHA MASON HILL. AMONG HER MANY EXCEPTIONAL QUALITIES WERE HER GOOD WILL TOWARD OTHERS AND HER STRONG BELIEF IN THE VALUE OF EDUCATION. THE FAMILY OF MRS. HILL HOPES TO CONTINUE HER LEGACY THROUGH THIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND. CURRENTLY 4 SCHOLARSHIPS ARE MADE AVAILABLE ANNUALLY TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS (THREE ARE FOR $1,500 EACH AND ONE IS FOR $1,000). EACH RECIPIENT OF THIS AWARD WILL BE HONORED WITH A CERTIFICATE DURING HIS OR HER HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS CEREMONY AND WILL BE PRESENTED A CHECK AT THE FOUNDATION'S ANNUAL PROGRAM IN SEPTEMBER HELD AT UNION GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH IN S. CHESTERFIELD, VA. CRITERIA THE AWARDS ARE MADE TO ETHNIC MINORITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (AFRICAN AMERICAN, HISPANIC, AMERICAN INDIAN), CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA RESIDENT WHO WILL ATTEND A FOUR-YEAR ACCREDITED INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE FALL OF 2016. REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED WITH A HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT AND SAT SCORES (SCORES NOT MANDATORY DURING COVID CRISIS). APPLICATIONS ARE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED ON-LINE AT WWW.MMHMF.ORG. FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AVAILABLE, THREE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN 2022.


AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SCHOOL YEAR, THE FOUNDATION ASKS THE SCHOOLS WE SUPPORT WHAT THINGS THEY NEED. BECAUSE THERE ARE HIGH PERCENTAGES OF STUDENTS FROM LOW INCOME FAMILIES ATTENDING THE TWO ELEMENTARY AND TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLS WE CHOSE TO SUPPORT, SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR STUDENTS ARE NEEDED. IN ADDITION, WE FOCUS ON LITERACY, SO HUNDREDS OF BOOKS ARE SECURED FROM THE RICHMOND, VA BOOK BANK AT NO COST TO US FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE HOME. IN ADDITION, WE PURCHASE HUNDREDS OF BOOKS FOR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES. MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION PURCHASE THE BOOKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES (WE LABEL THE BOOKS) AND THEN THE ITEMS ARE DELIVERED TO THE SCHOOLS (PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AND A REPRESENTATIVE NUMBER ARE INCLUDED IN OUR NEWSLETTER THAT IS DISTRIBUTED TO DONORS AND AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING ON OUR WEBSITE). ALSO, AS REQUESTED, WE PHYSICALLY AND FINANCIALLY SUPPORT SCHOOL PROJECTS SUCH AS FAIRS, TEACHER APPRECIATION PROGRAMS, FOOD BANKS, ETC.
