THE PURPOSES OF CITY FRESH ARE TO: 1. BUILD A FUTURE WHERE HOLISTIC LAND MANAGEMENT AND EQUITABLE AND COMMUNITY-LED DISTRIBUTION CHAINS OF WHOLE FOOD DRIVES AN ABUNDANCE OF HEALTH AND ENGAGEMENT, AND WHERE SURPLUS CAN BE RETURNED TO THE LANDSCAPE TO SUPPORT THE DIVERSITY ON WHICH OUR SOCIETY DEPENDS;2. ESTABLISH NETWORKS OF LEARNING THAT LEAD THE YOUNG AND OLD TO RE-ENGAGE WITH THEIR FOOD, AND WHERE THAT FOOD ACTS AS A BRIDGE THAT UNITES US TO SOLVE THE COMPLEX PROBLEMS OF HEALTH AND ECONOMIC DISPARITY;3. STRIVE TO MAKE THESE IDEALS A REALITY, ONE HARVEST AT A TIME; AND4. PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE FARMING BY SUPPORTING FARMERS WHO EMPLOY ORGANIC GROWING TECHNIQUES.
THE GEORGE JONES FARM IS A 70 ACRE FARMSTEAD COMBINING PRODUCTION AREAS FOR ORGANICALLY GROWN VEGETABLES, FRUIT, AND VERMICOMPOSTING WITH EFFORTS TO RESTORE NATURAL HABITAT. THE FARM INCLUDES A VARIETY OF FARMING APPLICATIONS SUCH AS SIX EXPERIMENTAL WETLANDS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW FARMING AND RESTORING BIODIVERSITY CAN BE MORE COMPATIBLE. THE FARM ALSO HAS AN INTERSHIP PROGRAM WITH OBERLIN COLLEGE AND LORAIN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THE FARM OFFERS VARIOUS PROGRAMS INCLUDING A SUMMER CAMP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN AIMING TO EDUCATE CHILDREN ON HOW FOOD GROWS.
