COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM - WE SERVE OVER 56,000 PEOPLE OF ALL AGES THROUGH AWARD WINNING EDUCATION PROGRAMS, OVER 12,700 SQUARE FEET OF INTERPRETIVE EXHIBITS, 14 MILES OF TRAILS, AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO SOME OF KALAMAZOO'S MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE BOTH ONE-TIME AND EXTENDED EXPERIENCES THAT INCLUDE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AT NATURE'S WAY PRESCHOOL, ON- AND OFF-SITE SCHOOL K-12 PROGRAMS, CAMP EXPERIENCES FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL CONSERVATION STUDIES AT HERONWOOD FIELD STATION, HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE-LEVEL INTERNSHIPS, TRAVEL EXPERIENCES "GEARED FOR ADULTSMORE.
RESEARCH ON COMMUNITY-RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES - ENGAGES HUNDREDS OF STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST IN CITIZEN SCIENCE PROJECTS THAT PROVIDE IMPORTANT DATA FOR MONITORING AND PROTECTING OUR NATURAL RESOURCES. FOCUSES INCLUDE THE NATION'S LONGEST RUNNING BIRD BANDING PROGRAM, AVIAN SURVEYS, LEADING THE BUTTERFLY MONITORING NETWORK, MONARCH TAGGING, NEST BOX MONITORING AND AQUATIC SAMPLING.
CLIENT-BASED HABITAT ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM THAT ASSISTS GOLF COURSES, CORPORATIONS, AND PROPERTY OWNERS IN ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE STEWARDSHIP OF LANDS UNDER THEIR CONTROL.
