THE AMERICAN SUGARBEET GROWERS ASSOCIATION WAS INCORPORATED IN OCTOBER 1975 UNDER THE LAWS OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO UNITE THE SUGARBEET GROWERS IN THE UNITED STATES AND PROMOTE THE COMMON INTERESTS OF ITS MEMBERS, WHICH INCLUDES LEGISLATIVE, REGULATORY, LEGAL AND INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS. THE ASSOCIATION MONITORS BILLS AND AMENDMENTS AFFECTING OR PERTAINING TO U.S. SUGAR POLICY AND AGRICULTURE APPROPRIATIONS, ADMINISTRATION OF THE CURRENT SUGAR PROGRAM AND SUGAR TARIFF RATE IMPORT QUOTA, CROP INSUARANCE ISSUES, PESTICIDE REGULATORY AND LITIGATION ISSUES AND BIOTECHNOLOGY. THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES SUPPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO CONGRESS AND FEDERAL AGENCIES REGARDING BILATERAL, REGIONAL AND MULTILATERAL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS.THE ASSOCIATION HAS LED AN INDUSTRY COORDINATED EFFORT TO APPROVE AND COMMERCIALIZE BIOTECHNOLOGY IN SUGARBEETS.
