Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN FY 2021, RIF OF NOVA WORKED WITH 20,000 INFANTS-ADULTS AT 37 SITES THAT INCLUDED COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC-SCHOOL INFANT AND PARENT PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY AND HEAD START PRE-K PROGRAMS, COUNTY HEALTH CENTERS SERVING FAMILIES, AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS SERVING STUDENTS IN PRE-K THROUGH GRADE 8 IN THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA AND THE COUNTIES OF ARLINGTON, FAIRFAX, AND PRINCE WILLIAM. BECAUSE THE SITES WERE PROVIDING ONLINE INSTRUCTION MOST OF THE SPRING OF 2020 AND FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES WERE ALMOST NONEXISTENT FOR THEIR PTA AND SPONSORING GROUPS, THE RIF OF NOVA BOARD VOTED IN LATE SPRING OF 2020 TO PROVIDE 100% OF THE COSTS FOR BOOKS FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR AND OFFERED CONTRACTS THAT REFLECTED THAT DECISION. THROUGH THE CONTRACT PURCHASES, A NATIONAL RIF GRANT, AND LOCAL GRANTS, CLOSE TO 25,000 PAPERBACK BOOKS WERE PURCHASED AND DISTRIBUTED, WITH STUDENT AT DESIGNATED SITES RECEIVING MORE THAN ONE NEW BOOK. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MET FORMALLY 5 TIMES VIA ZOOM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO FOCUS ON THE SCHEDULING AND FORMATTING OF BOOK DISTRIBUTIONS, FUNDRAISING PROJECTS, THE DISTRIBUTION OF GRANT/GIFT MONIES, AND TO PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF THE PROGRAM. DUE TO COVID MITIGATION RESTRAINTS, MANY ONSITE BOOK DISTRIBUTIONS WERE HELD OUTDOORS, AND ONLINE METHODOLOGY WAS USED APRIL-JUNE 2021 TO ENGAGE THE LIAISONS IN THE WORK NECESSARY TO ENSURE BOOK ORDERING FOR THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR.
