PLAN, DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH, ENHANCES THE ENVIRONMENT, AND IMPROVES THE STANDARD OF LIVING AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE CITIZENS OF KANSAS AND ESPECIALLY NORTHEAST KANSAS.

THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS TWO LARGE WATERSHED RESTORATION AND PROTECTION PROGRAMS ABOVE THE FEDERAL WATER SUPPLY RESERVOIRS OF PERRY LAKE AND TUTTLE CREEK LAKE. THE PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE PROVIDING COST SHARE ASSISTANCE TO PRIVATE LANDOWNERS TO ADDRESS SURFACE WATER IMPAIRMENTS THAT IMPACT THE WATER QUALITY OF THE WATERSHEDS AND THE RESERVOIRS. POLLUTANTS REDUCED INCLUDED SEDIMENTS, NUTRIENTS, BACTERIA AND LIVESTOCK WASTE WHICH AFFECT PUBLIC DRINKING SUPPLIES. A TOTAL OF $96,060 WAS PROVIDED TO 41 LANDOWNERS TO INSTALL CONSERVATION PRACTICES TO REDUCE POLLUTANTS FROM REACHING THE RESERVOIRS, THE KANSAS RIVER, THE MISSOURI RIVER AND THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THE FARMER TO FARMER NETWORK WAS A PROGRAM THAT USES FARMER COACHES TO WORK WITH OTHER FARMERS TO ADOPT SOIL HEALTH PRACTICES LIKE NO-TILLAGE AND COVER CROPS. THERE ARE NINE COACHES EACH WORKING WITH FIVE FARMS TO IMPLEMENT THESE SOIL HEALTH PRACTICES. THE BENEFITS ARE NUTRIENT AND SEDIMENT REDUCTION FROM AGRICULTURAL LAND THAT WOULD REACH THE KANSAS, MISSOURI, AND MISSISSIPPI RIVERS. THE ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH THE KANSAS STREAM TEAM WHICH INCLUDES THREE STATE AGENCIES THAT ASSIST LANDOWNERS ALONG THE DELAWARE RIVER AND LITTLE AND BIG BLUE RIVERS TO IMPLEMENT STREAMBANK STABILIZATION PROJECTS TO REDUCE STREAMBANK EROSION FROM OCCURRING ALONG THE RIVERS.


REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS PROVIDE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PLANNING, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ENTREPRENEURS WANTING TO START A SMALL BUSINESS OR BUSINESS OWNERS WANTING TO EXPAND THEIR GROWING BUSINESSES. THE GLACIAL HILLS FOOD CENTER IS A SHARED USE FOOD PROCESSING FACILITY THAT PROVIDES SPACE, EQUIPMENT, AND PLANNING ASSISTANCE TO FOOD ENTREPRENEURS STARTING FOOD BUSINESSES. THE GLACIAL HILL BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER PROVIDED SUPPORT, ASSISTANCE AND BUSINESS PLANNING TO ENTREPRENEURS AND BUSINESS OWNERS WITH ONE ON ONE BUSINESS COACHING, AND OFFICE SPACE TO 15 BUSINESSES. THE SHAWNEE COUNTY E-COMMUNITY IS A PROGRAM THAT COOPERATES WITH NETWORK KANSAS TO PROVIDE LOANS AND WORKSHOPSTO ENTREPRENEURS AND SMALL BUSINESSES. NETWORK KANSAS A STATEWIDE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT RECEIVES FUNDING FROM THE STATE OF KANSAS FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT.
