RESEARCH PROGRAMS:MOUNTAIN STUDIES INSTITUTE (MSI) CONNECTS SCIENTISTS AND STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN REGION TO APPLY THE RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. TO THAT END, MSI PERFORMS AND FACILITATES RESEARCH WHICH EXPLORES SOLUTIONS TO NATURAL RESOURCE ISSUES THAT IMPACT THE REGION AND BEYOND. THESE ISSUES INCLUDE:AIR AND WATER QUALITY, CLIMATE VARIABILITY AND CHANGE, CHANGES IN BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY AND FOREST HEALTH AND THE EFFECTS OF TRANSITIONING FROM EXTRACTION ECONOMIES.
