RESEARCH PROGRAMS:MOUNTAIN STUDIES INSTITUTE (MSI) CONNECTS SCIENTISTS AND STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN REGION TO APPLY THE RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. TO THAT END, MSI PERFORMS AND FACILITATES RESEARCH WHICH EXPLORES SOLUTIONS TO NATURAL RESOURCE ISSUES THAT IMPACT THE REGION AND BEYOND. THESE ISSUES INCLUDE:AIR AND WATER QUALITY, CLIMATE VARIABILITY AND CHANGE, CHANGES IN BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY AND FOREST HEALTH AND THE EFFECTS OF TRANSITIONING FROM EXTRACTION ECONOMIES.


COMMUNITY SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS:MSI SPONSORS COMMUNITY SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS ANNUALLY FOR A VARIETY OF AUDIENCES AND AGES, INCLUDING K-12 EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION, CITIZEN SCIENCE, FIELD TOURS, CONFERENCES, WEBINARS, COLLEGE COURSES, WORKSHOPS, SUMMER CAMPS AND STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, RESEARCHERS AND PRACTITIONERS. MSI PROGRAMS COVER AN ARRAY OT TOPICS INCLUDING CLIMATE ADAPTATION, FOREST HEALTH, BIODIVERSITY, AND WATER QUALITY.
