HISTORIC WICHITA COWTOWN, INC'S PURPOSE IS TO DEPICT WICHITA DURING THE PERIOD OF 1865 TO 1880. THE ORGANIZATION DOES SO BY COLLECTING AND PERSERVING WRITTEN RECORDS AND ARTIFACTS AND REPRODUCING ITEMS FROM THAT ERA.

THE MUSEUM MAINTAINS AN EXTENSIVE INVENTORY OF PERIOD ITEMS, COSTUMES, AND EQUIPMENT FOR USE IN STUDY AND RESEARCH, DEMONSTRATIONS, AND VARIOUS EVENTS. EACH ITEM IS CATALOGED AND PRESERVED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT MUSEUM STANDARDS. THESE PIECES ARE EITHER DISPLAYED FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR STORED IN AN APPROPRIATE STORAGE FACILITY. ITEMS ARE CLEANED AND INSPECTED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR THE MUSEUM HOSTS FUNDRAISING EVENTS TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE COSTUMES AND EQUIPMENT. A FEW OF THE KEY FUNDRAISING EVENTS IN 2022 WERE THE COWTOWN 5K STAMPEDE, COWTOWN 5K JAILBREAK, AND WILD WEST DAYS.
