MISSION - TO PROVIDE LOW INCOME PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS WICOMICO COUNTY, MARYLAND WITH AN INTENSIVE ACADEMIC SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM AND YEAR ROUND SUPPORT TO TRANSFORM LIVES OF STUDENTS CAUGHT IN THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TEACHERS AND FAMILIES, HORIZONS GUIDES AND SUPPORTS STUDENTS FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 8TH GRADE VIA THE SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM. WE ALSO GUIDE STUDENTS, KINDERGARTEN THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL, WITH TUTORING AND MENTORING DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. IT IS THE GOAL OF HORIZONS TO DEVELOP THE WHOLE CHILD BY EMPHASIZING ACADEMIC, CULTURAL, AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS, FOSTER AWARENESS OF COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY, INSTILL RESPECT FOR ONESELF AND OTHERS, AND ENCOURAGE A LIFELONG LOVE OF LEARNING. THE HORIZONS PROGRAM GIVES STUDENTS THE TOOLS AND SUPPORT THAT WILL ASSIST THEM IN BECOMING SUCCESSFUL, CONFIDENT STUDENTS WHO WILL BE COLLEGE AND CAREER READY.
