Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
CHALLENGING AND IMPRESSIVE. THESE TWO WORDS ENCAPSULATE THE YEAR 2021 FOR THE WOMEN'S BAKERY. DESPITE PANDEMIC-RELATED RESTRICTIONS, CURFEWS, SCHOOL CLOSURES, AND RAW MATERIALS SHORTAGES, OUR BAKERIES SMASHED SALES RECORDS AGAIN. IN 2021, OUR BAKERIES SOLD 1,480,000 BREAD UNITS, A 120% INCREASE FROM 2020! HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS BREADS IN A TIME WHEN NUTRITIOUS, AFFORDABLE BREAD WAS NEEDED THE MOST. OUR MISSION: THE WOMEN'S BAKERY IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE THAT EMPOWERS WOMEN AND CREATES ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS, AFFORDABLE BREADS IN EAST AFRICA. WE ARE LIVING OUR MISSION. THERE IS NOTHING WOMEN CANNOT DO. TWB'S SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM, THE ONE BREAD PROJECT, PROVIDED DISCOUNTED NUTRITIOUS BREAD TO 6,000+ STUDENTS AT SCHOOL EVERY DAY, UP FROM 3,000 STUDENTS IN 2020. TWB EMPLOYED 50 WOMEN DIRECTLY, 46 OF WHOM ARE EAST AFRICAN, ACROSS THREE BAKERIES IN RWANDA. ALL TWB TEAM MEMBERS HAVE ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING, FINANCIAL LITERACY LESSONS, REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH TRAINING, NUTRITION LESSONS, AND MORE. ALL TEAM MEMBERS HAVE COMPANY HEALTH INSURANCE, BENEFITING 139 DEPENDENTS. 80% OF WOMEN BAKERS REPORTED FEELING CONFIDENT IN THEIR BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF FINANCES, SPECIFICALLY SAVING AND BUDGETING. AS WE CELEBRATE OUR GROWTH, WE LOOK AHEAD TO MORE EXCITING GROWTH HAPPENING IN 2022 AND BEYOND. WE ARE WORKING TO OPEN A FOURTH BAKERY AND WE HAVE EMBARKED ON A NEW REVENUE ENDEAVOR: MICRO-FRANCHISING. THROUGH THE MICRO-FRANCHISE PROGRAM, TWB WILL SUPPORT FEMALE MICRO-FRANCHISEES TO LAUNCH HER OWN BUSINESS. TWB WILL SELL BREAD TO A FEMALE MICRO-FRANCHISEE AT WHOLESALE PRICES, WHO WILL THEN SELL THE BREAD TO HER OWN CUSTOMERS. OUR BELIEF THAT A BAKERY CAN EMPOWER WOMEN AND SUSTAIN ITSELF THROUGH THE SALE OF AFFORDABLE, NUTRITIOUS BREADS IS TAKING FLIGHT!
