SUN VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTER SERVES FAMILIES AND KIDS WITH FOOD AND LOVE. SVCC IS DEDICATED TO FOSTERING A THRIVING COMMUNITY BY OFFERING A SECURE AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT, AS WELL AS ESSENTIAL NOURISHMENT. WE EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS THROUGH INITIATIVES SUCH AS OUR NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM, CHEF ENTREPRENEURSHIP, YOUTH ENRICHMENT, WESTSIDE ATHLETICS, YOUTH EMPLOYMENT, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND THE HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER. ADDITIONALLY, WE FACILITATE MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS THROUGH ANNUAL COMMUNITY GATHERINGS LIKE THE VIADUCT NIGHT MARKET, FALL HARVEST FEST, EARTH DAY FESTIVAL AND HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION.

NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM: SVCC'S NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM PROVIDES GROCERIES, TOILETRIES, DIAPERS, AND HOT MEALS FOR FAMILIES IN SUN VALLEY TWICE PER WEEK, ON WEDNESDAYS AND SATURDAYS. IN 2023, THE PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 151,159 POUNDS OF FOOD AND 14,074 HOT MEALS TO 5,364 FAMILIES AND 12,793 INDIVIDUALS. SVCC PARTNERS WITH DENVER FOOD RESCUE AND OTHER LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, SUCH AS DENVER BOTANIC GARDENS, TO DISTRIBUTE RESCUED FOOD FROM LOCAL GROCERY STORES, GARDENS, AND FARMS. SVCC ALSO PURCHASES ADDITIONAL FOOD STAPLES TO SUPPLEMENT THE DONATED ITEMS.


WESTSIDE ATHLETICS: WESTSIDE ATHLETICS PROVIDES WEEKLY SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING SESSIONS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, HOSTED BY A TRAINER AND FOLLOWED BY A MEAL. THESE SESSIONS OFFER YOUTH THE CHANCE TO DEVELOP ESSENTIAL SKILLS SUCH AS AGILITY, SPEED, AND STRENGTH. IN 2023, SVCC SERVED 261 YOUTH THROUGH WEEKLY TRAINING SESSIONS AND FIELD TRIPS. THIS PROGRAM NOT ONLY PROMOTES PHYSICAL FITNESS BUT ALSO FOSTERS TEAMWORK AND DISCIPLINE AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER: IN 2023, SVKCC OPENED THE HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER, OFFERING FREE HEALTH SERVICES TO SUN VALLEY RESIDENTS AND MEDICAID RECIPIENTS. THE CENTER PROVIDES A VARIETY OF MODALITIES, INCLUDING AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE, CHAIR YOGA, AROMATHERAPY, HERBAL REMEDIES, MEDITATION, AND A MONTHLY HERBAL WELLNESS WORKSHOP TO ENHANCE OVERALL WELL-BEING. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, SVCC SERVED 29 DUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS. SUN VALLEY KITCHEN IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE RESTAURANT THAT PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS AND YOUTH IN SUN VALLEY. IT ALSO FEATURES A LOCAL CHEF ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM, SUPPORTING CHEFS FROM THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. FRIDAY PIZZA NIGHT: A WEEKLY EVENT SERVING SUN VALLEY RESIDENTS AND HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS WITH PIZZA, SALAD, AND JUICE. STARTED ON JANUARY 1, 2021 DURING COVID, THIS EVENT AIMS TO BUILD COMMUNITY AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS WITH SUN VALLEY YOUTH AND FAMILIES THROUGH SHARED MEALS, PROMOTING INCLUSIVITY AND SUPPORT AMONG PARTICIPANTS. SINCE IT'S INCEPTION, SVCC'S COMMUNITY PIZZA NIGHT SERVED 11,489 MEALS.


YOUTH EMPLOYMENT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: IN 2023, SVCC'S YOUTH EMPLOYMENT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EMPLOYED 10 YOUTH FROM SUN VALLEY. THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, TRAINING, MENTORSHIP, FOOD SAFETY TRAINING, TIME MANAGEMENT, GOAL SETTING, AND OTHER PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES THE PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT TO ENSURE THE WELL-BEING OF YOUTH EMPLOYEES. SVCC YOUTH EMPLOYEES ASSIST WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM AND FOOD DISTRIBUTION EFFORTS, WEEKNIGHT COMMUNITY DINNERS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES, AND OTHER COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES.


YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: THE YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM PROVIDES COOKING AND OTHER ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SUN VALLEY. IN 2023, SVCC SERVED 139 YOUTH THROUGH 19 COOKING CLASSES. WITH GUIDANCE FROM AN INSTRUCTOR AND VOLUNTEERS, THE YOUTH LEARNED TECHNIQUES, SKILLS, AND RECIPE LITERACY TO COOK HEALTHY MEALS CONFIDENTLY IN THE KITCHEN.
