SUN VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTER SERVES CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WITH FOOD AND LOVE THROUGH WEEKLY DINNERS FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES, IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL KIDS COOKING CLASSES, YOUTH EMPLOYMENT AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS, LOCAL CHEF ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMMING, A TWICE WEEKLY FOOD PANTRY, AND A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE RESTAURANT - SUN VALLEY KITCHEN.

NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM: SVCC'S NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM PROVIDES GROCERIES, TOILETRIES, DIAPERS, AND HOT MEALS FOR FAMILIES IN SUN VALLEY AND SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS TWICE PER WEEK (ON WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY). IN 2021, THE NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 158,642 POUNDS OF FOOD AND 14,310 HOT MEALS TO 5,015 FAMILIES AND 13,745 DUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS. SVCC PARTNERS WITH DENVER FOOD RESCUE TO DISTRIBUTE RESCUED FOOD FROM LOCAL GROCERY STORES, AND SVCC PURCHASES ADDITIONAL FOOD STAPLES TO SUPPLEMENT THE DONATED ITEMS. THERE ARE NO REQUIREMENTS OR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS RECEIVING FOOD FROM THE FOOD PANTRY.
YOUTH EMPLOYMENT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: SVCC'S YOUTH EMPLOYMENT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EMPLOYED 8 SUN VALLEY YOUTH IN 2021. THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOCUSES ON WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, TRAINING, MENTORSHIP, FOOD SAFETY TRAINING, TIME MANAGEMENT AND GOAL SETTING, AND OTHER PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES. SVCC YOUTH EMPLOYEES ASSIST WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S NO-COST GROCERY PROGRAM AND FOOD DISTRIBUTION EFFORTS, WEEKNIGHT COMMUNITY DINNERS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES, AND OTHER COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES.
YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: THE YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM PROVIDES COOKING AND OTHER ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SUN VALLEY. IN 2021, SVCC SERVED 175 UNDUPLICATED YOUTH THROUGH 24 VIRTUAL COOKING CLASSES. YOUTH THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE VIRTUAL COOKING CLASSES WERE PROVIDED WITH A KIT OF INGREDIENTS AND SUPPLIES, A RECIPE TRANSLATED INTO 5 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, AND AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO TO FOLLOW ALONG AT HOME TO CREATE SIMPLE, HEALTHY MEALS
SUN VALLEY KITCHEN IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE RESTAURANT THAT PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENTS AND YOUTH, INCLUDING A LOCAL CHEF ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM SUPPORTING CHEFS FROM THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY.
