CANBAR ASSOCIATION IS A SPECIALTY BAR ASSOCIATION FOR ATTORNEYS THAT OFFERS ITS MEMBERS LEGAL EDUCATION, NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES, AND COMMUNITY BENEFITS LIKE DISCOUNTS ON MEMBERSHIPS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS TO RELATED ORGANIZATION, INDUSTRY EVENTS, AND LEGAL SUPPORT SERVICES RELATED TO OUR MEMBERS PRACTICE OF LAW.

IN NOVEMBER 2022, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL FALL CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. EACH YEAR, THIS PROGRAM IS HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH MJBIZCON, AND PROVIDES A FULL DAY OF ACCREDITED CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR LAWYERS (CLE). IN 2022, THE PROGRAM CONSISTED OF 24 SPEAKERS, 7 HOURS OF CLE, AND WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 130 REGISTERED ATTENDEES. THE PROGRAM GENERATED APPROXIMATELY $35,000 IN REVENUE AND COSTS, AND IS GENERALLY A BREAK-EVEN EVENT FOR THE ORGANIZATION. IN ADDITION TO THE FULL DAY OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, WE HOSTED A NETWORKING EVENT, WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 100 LAWYERS AND GUESTS.
IN JUNE 2022, WE HELD OUR ANNUAL SUMMER CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTITUTE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. AT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON LAW SCHOOL. EACH YEAR, THIS PROGRAM IS HELD AT A LAW SCHOOL AND PROVIDES THREE FULL DAYS OF ACCREDITED CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR LAWYERS (CLE). IN 2022, WE PROVIDED 19 HOURS OF CLE, AND 185 PEOPLE REGISTERED TO ATTEND THIS PROGRAM, WHICH GENERATED APPROXIMATELY $30,000 IN REVENUE AND CORRESPONDING EXPENSES. THIS PROGRAM GENERALLY IS A BREAK-EVEN OR LOSS LEADER FOR THE ORGANIZATION, BUT PROVIDES A TREMENDOUS VALUE TO ATTORNEYS BY WAY OF EDUCATION AND NETWORKING.
COMMITTEE WORK: WE HAVE STREAMLINED OUR COMMITTEE SYSTEM TO BETTER SERVE THE NEEDS OF OUR MEMBERS, AND HAVE 9 MEMBER-BASED COMMITTEES THAT ARE STAFFED WITH VOLUNTEERS AND THAT ENGAGE IN A VARIETY OF WORK. IN ADDITION TO OUR CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION AND EVENTS COMMITTEE, WHICH PUT ON THE IN-PERSON EDUCATION AND NETWORKING EVENTS DISCUSSED ABOVE, WE ALSO HAVE, AMONG OTHERS, THE: - DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE, WHICH PROMOTES DIVERSITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION, AND WHICH IS FOCUSED ON BOLSTERING OUR DIVERSITY IN LEADERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP TO REFLECT AND ASPIRATIONAL DIVERSITY OF ETHNICITY, JURISDICTIONAL PRACTICE, TYPE OF POSITION (IN-HOUSE, ACADEMIC, FIRM LAWYER, ETC.). - ONLINE CONTENT COMMITTEE, WHICH RUNS OUR BLOG AND FEEDS MATERIAL TO OTHER PUBLICATIONS ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS. - ALLIED ASSOCIATIONS AND PRO BONO COMMITTEE (A COMMITTEE TO CONNECT OUR ASSOCIATION WITH OTHER SIMILARLY MINDED NON-PROFITS, AND TO HELP OUR LAWYERS FIND PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES WITH OTHER ASSOCIATIONS). - AMICUS COMMITTEE, WHICH IDENTIFIES CURRENT CASES AND CONTROVERSIES, AND FILES AMICUS BRIEFS IN SELECT CASES, AS APPROPRIATE. - INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE, WHICH HELPS SUPPORT NON-US MEMBERSHIP BUILDING, NON-US EDUCATION, AND OUR PRESENCE AT NON-US EVENTS. - STUDENTS COMMITTEE, WHICH HAS CREATED AND HELPS GUIDE 12 STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATIONS IN LAW SCHOOLS IN THE US. - LEGISLATIVE ADVISEMENT COMMITTEE, WHICH PUBLISHES PUBLIC COMMENTS ON PENDING LEGISLATIVE ACTION AND RULEMAKING. - ETHICS COMMITTEE, WHICH EXAMINES THE PERTINENT ETHICS RULES IN EACH JURISDICTION, AND HELPS OUR MEMBERS NAVIGATE THE STATE LEVEL ETHICS RULES APPLICABLETO LAWYERS.OUR COMMITTEES ARE 100% ATTORNEY MEMBERS AND DO NOT PERMIT PARTICIPATION BY NON MEMBERS.
