WESTERN KENTUCKY HEART AND LUNG RESEARCH FOUNDATION AND EDUCATIONAL TRUST HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO RESEARCH AND CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION IN AN ATTEMPT TO HELP SHIFT THE FOCUS OF PRACTITIONERS IN THE SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY COMMUNITY TO INCLUDE AN EMPHASIS ON RESEARCH AND EDUCATION. THE RESEARCH FOUNDATION WILL PROVIDE THE SUPPORT NEEDED TO PROMOTE ROBUST RESEARCH PROJECTS CONDUCTED BY THE MECIAL RESIDENTS, FELLOWS, HEALTHCARE STUDENTS, AND OTHER MEDICAL PROVIDERS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION ARE A MULTIDISCIPLINARY GROUP OF PHYSICIANS AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROVIDER. THE WKHL RESEARCH FOUNDATION & EDUCATIONAL TRUST IS DEEPLY COMMITTED TO IMPROVING PATIENT HEALTH AND CARE THROUGH EVIDENCE-BASED EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT WILL PROVIDE CLINICIANS WITH INFORMATION ON THE MOST CURRENT TREATMENT GUIDELINES AND TECHNIQUES IN THE FIELD OF CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE. IT IS TOWARD THIS PURPOSE THAT WE HAVE CREATED THE ANNUAL WKHL CARDIOVASCULAR SYMPOSIUM. RESEARCH ABSTRACTS CONTINUE TO BE A PART OF THIS SYMPOSIUM AND HAVE GROWN TO OVER 40 POSTER PRESENTATIONS FEATURING RESEARCH IN MANY DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES THAT ARE SUPPORTED BY WKHL RESEARCH FOUNDATION ABND EDUCATIONAL TRUST AND MED CENTER HEALTH. TWO FELLOWS WERE AWARDED FIRST PLACE IN THE POSTER PRESENTATION AT THE ACC AND ACP REGIONAL CONFERENCES. THE SYMPOSIUM WAS PLANNED AND IMPLENENTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES OF THE ACCREDITATION COUNCIL FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION THROUGH THE JOINT PROVIDERSHIP OF MED CENTER HEALTH AND WESTERN KENTUCKY HEART AND LUNCH RESEARCH FOUNDATION AND EDUCATIONAL TRUST. A MAXIMUM OF 6.5 AMA PRA CATEGORY 1 CREDITS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO PARTICIPANTS.
