THE CREATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE DEMONSTRATION FARM TO DEMONSTRATE THE EFFICACY OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE PRACTICES AND ASSOCIATED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS USING THE DEMONSTRATION FARM AS AN 'OUTDOOR CLASSROOM.' THIS ALLOWS THE FOUNDATION TO INCREASE PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF REGIONAL PLANT AND CROP VARIETALS, AND TO EXPAND THE VARIETY AND AVAILABILITY OF LOCALLY-GROWN ORGANIC FOODS. LOCAL GROUPS ALSO VISIT TO EXPERIENCE THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, THE FARMING WAY OF LIFE, AND VARIOUS EXHIBITS MAINTAINED BY THE FARM.
THE PLANNING, HOSTING AND/OR CONDUCT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN THE AREAS OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND CONSERVATION. THE FARM USES ECOLOGICAL, HISTORICAL, AND ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT LAND BOTH AS AN 'OUTDOOR CLASSROOM AND AS AN 'OUTDOOR LABORATORY.' THESE ARE SUPPORTED BY INDOOR CLASSROOMS IN THE FARM'S RESTORED HISTORIC BARN. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR REGIONAL RESIDENTS. CURRENTLY, GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN, AND STUDENTS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND FORESTRY AT SUNY SYRACUSE ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAMS.
