FIRE AND FORESTRY PROGRAM IN 2021, CLERC COMPLETED HUNDREDS OF ACRES OF WILDFIRE FUEL REDUCTION, REMOVED DOZENS OF HAZARD TREES, AND SUPPORTED CHIPPING SERVICES, WHICH BENEFITTED THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS LIVING IN THE WILDLAND-URBAN INTERFACE (WUI) IN LAKE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. CLERC SECURED FUNDS AND INITIATED ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW FOR OVER 900 ACRES OF FOREST HEALTH RESTORATION ACTIVITIES THROUGH CAL FIRES FOREST HEALTH PROGRAM. COMMUNITY MEETINGS WERE HELD AND GIS DATA UPDATED TO FACILITATE THE FIRST UPDATE OF THE LAKE COUNTY COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PROTECTION PLAN (CWPP) SINCE 2009. CLERC FORMED REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH CONSERVATION GROUPS IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES TO SECURE FUNDING AND IMPLEMENT FOREST HEALTH AND WILDFIRE RESILIENCE LANDOWNER ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE NORTH BAY FOREST IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (NBFIP), THE REGIONAL FOREST AND FIRE CAPACITY PROGRAM (RFFC), AND THE REGIONAL CONSERVATION PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (RCPP). IN SUPPORT OF THESE ACTIVITIES, CLERC HIRED A FIRE AND FORESTRY PROGRAM MANAGER, PROJECT COORDINATOR, AND HOSTED AN AMERICORPS CIVICSPARK FELLOW. CLERC WORKED WITH PARTNERS ACROSS ALL SECTORS INCLUDING FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AS WELL AS PRIVATE CITIZENS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
THE CLEAR LAKE ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTER LAB (CLERC LAB) HAS TAKEN ON MORE CLIENTS, IN PARTICULAR THE LAKE COUNTY FARM BUREAU AND ITS IRRIGATED LANDS REGULATORY PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM WIDENED OUR SCOPE OF WORK TO INCLUDE WATER SAMPLING AND FIELD MONITORING, AND LED TO ANOTHER CLIENT IN A NEIGHBORING COUNTY TO USE OUR SERVICE. THE CLERC LAB PHYSICALLY MOVED TO THE CARNEGIE LIBRARY IN LAKEPORT, A MUCH LARGER SPACE AND ONE REQUIRING COMPLETE FURNISHING TO BE ERGONOMICALLY SOUND AND ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEAN FOR THE PURPOSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS. IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE CLERC LABS ACCREDITATION CERTIFICATION WE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A THIRD PARTY ASSESSMENT AND THE REQUIRED PROFICIENCY TESTS FOR THE STANDARD METHODS BEING USED. THE CLERC LAB IS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED FOR MICROBIOLOGY OF DRINKING WATER AND WASTEWATER.
