ADDICTION EDUCATION SOCIETY PROVIDES PUBLIC INFORMATION, ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES ON ISSUES RELATING TO SUBSTANCE ADDICTION AND ITS IMPACT ON INDIVIDUAL LIVES, FAMILIES, AND IN THE LIVES OF OUR COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT ADDICTION IS A DISEASE.

DEVELOP VERSION 6 OF THE NEUROSCIENCE OF ADDICTION AND "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME" CURRICULUM. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE STUDENTS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL WITH KNOWLEDGE; AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO MAKE INTELLIGENT, HEALTHY CHOICES ABOUT ALCOHOL; DRUG USE; AND HOW THE DISEASE OF ADDICTION IS DEVELOPED. STUDENTS ALSO LEARN HOW ALL ADDICTIVE DRUGS AFFECT THE PLEASURE CENTERS OF THE BRAIN, WHO IS MOST LIKELY TO GET ADDICTED, AND WHY. THE CURRICULUM COVERS THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF THE DISEASE PROCESS. DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID ENVIRONMENT, DURING THIS PERIOD ADDICTION EDUCATION SOCIETY DEVELOPED PROGRAM SOFTWARE TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO ENGAGE WITH THE PROGRAM INDEPENDENTLY, VIRTUALLY AND/OR TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASSROOM ZOOM MEETINGS. THE VERSION 6 ONLINE PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED TO ALLOW TEACHERS TO PROVIDE ONLINE CURRICULUM VIA ZOOM DURING THE FALL 2020 SCHOOL YEAR. SOFTWARE ENHANCEMENTS INCLUDE: -DESIGN MAIN FUNCTIONALITIES FOR 6 ONLINE SESSIONS -EMBED PRE/POST STUDENT SURVEY. MODIFIED POST SURVEY ONLINE QUESTIONS -DEVELOP STUDENT OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS, INCLUDING RESOURCE TAB FOR HELP ACCESS -ASSEMBLE MINI VIDEO SEGMENTS PER SESSION, CAPTIONS, AND VOICE OVER INSTRUCTIONS. -DEVELOP STUDENT QUESTIONS RELATED TO CONTENT AND SYSTEM VALIDATIONS -REVIEW AND UPDATE CONTENT AND CASE STUDIES -DEVELOP PDF DOWNLOAD OF STUDENT QUESTIONS RESPONSES FOR TEACHER SUBMISSIONS -DEVELOP TEACHER DASHBOARD TO REVIEW STUDENT PROGRESS -STUDENT NOTE TAKING CAPABILITY WHILE WATCHING THE SESSION -DEVELOPED TEACHER TRAINING VIDEO -DEVELOPED TEACHER AND STUDENT WORKBOOKS AND TEACHER KEYS -STUDENT HELP RESOURCES, ASK DR. VERSION 1 OF "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME PROGRAM" DEVELOPED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO COMPLETE 3 SESSIONS: FIRST SESSION CONTENT: "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO ME", 2ND SESSION CONTENT RELATED TO THE SCIENCE OF ADDICTION AND 3RD SESSION RELATED TO TELL-TALE SIGNS OF ADDICTION. CRYSTAL SPRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS SELECTED TO PILOT THE PROGRAM FIRST. ALL SYSTEM SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS AND VALIDATIONS ARE SIMILAR TO THE 6-SESSION PROGRAM. PRE AND POST SURVEY QUESTIONS DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS PROGRAM. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE SURVEY DEVELOPED TO MEASURE STUDENT SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE, PROGRAM VIDEO ENHANCEMENTS, TEACHER/STUDENT WORKBOOK MODIFICATIONS AND CASE STUDIES. SPANISH STUDENT WORKBOOK AND TEACHER KEY DEVELOPED.


TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING: MAJOR TRAINING WAS REQUIRED DUE TO SOFTWARE DEVELOPED DURING THIS COVID PERIOD. SCHOOLS, GROUPS AND INDIVIDUAL TRAINING SESSIONS WERE HOSTED VIA ZOOM ONLINE. TRAINING INCLUDED: TEACHER REGISTRATION, STUDENT REGISTRATION, CLASS REGISTRATION, TEACHER DASHBOARD, STUDENT PROGRESS, VIDEO OPERATIONS, VIDEO/COMPARE BUTTON FUNCTIONALITIES, STUDENT ONLINE VALIDATIONS, STUDENT PDF DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROGRAM COMPLETION, STUDENT RESPONSE TAB, FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS DOCUMENT, PRE/POST STUDENT SURVEY EMBEDDED WITHIN SESSION 1 AND 6, STUDENT WORKBOOKS, AND HOW TO RESOLVE INDIVIDUAL COMPUTER SOFTWARE TECHNICAL ISSUES. FINALLY, TEACHER TRAINING VIDEO DEVELOPED.
