FACILITATOR INDENTIFICATION, TRAINING AND RETENTION. PAL GROWS THROUGH VOLUNTEER PARENTS WHO DECIDE TO HELP OTHERS BY STARTING NEW MEETINGS. WE HAVE OVER 300 VOLUNTEER FACILITATORS NATIONWIDE. PROVIDING SUPPORT AND RETAINING FACILITATORS DURING THE PANDEMIC POSED NEW CHALLENGES INCLUDING ASSISTING WITH MOVING TO VIRTUAL MEETINGS.
PUBLIC AWARENESS - MISSION AVAILABILITY ONCE PARENTS BECOME AWARE OF PAL MEETINGS, THEY FIND PEERS, LEARN THEY ARE NOT ALONE, AND MOVE FROM A PLACE OF FEAR TO ONE OF HOPE FOR THEIR LOVED ONE(S) WITH ADDICTION ISSUES. THIS IS DONE THROUGH EDUCATION AND PEER SUPPORT. RAISING AWARENESS OF THE PAL PROGRAM IS ESSENTIAL TO REACHING FAMILIES IN NEED. EVERY MEDIA OR PUBLIC APPEARANCE GENERATES ATTENDEES, QUESTIONS AND INTEREST IN STARTING MEETINGS. GETTING MATERIALS TO PLACES PARENTS MIGHT LOOK TO FOR HELP OR COME INTO CONTACT WITH DURING THEIR CHILD'S CRISIS IS ANOTHER FOCUS STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS CONDUCT AWARENESS EVENTS TO GET MATERIALS TO COUNSELORS AND TREATMENT CENTERS, PUBLIC SAFETY AND MORE.
MEETING START UPS FACILITATORS STARTING NEW MEETINGS REQUIRE SIGNAGE, LESSONS, REFERENCE MATERIALS AND BOOKS, VIDEOS AND MORE. IN ADDITION TO PURCHASING AND PRINTING THE MATERIALS, THEY HAVE TO BE SHIPPED TO THE FACILTATORS. EXISTING MEETINGS NEED REPLENISHMENT TOO. BEFORE GROWTH IN MEETINGS WAS HAMPERED BY THE PANDEMIC, PAL WAS ON COURSE TO BE PRESENT IN EVERY STATE. AT THE PRE-PANDEMIC PEAK THERE WERE NEARLY 180 MEETINGS IN 40 STATES. MANY CONVERTED TO VIRTUAL, BUT SOME WERE LOST. AT THE END OF THE YEAR THERE WERE ABOUT 130 MEETINGS IN MORE THAN 30 STATES, MANY MEETING VIRTUALLY.
