NEW SANCTUARY MOVEMENT OF PHILADELPHIA IS AN INTERFAITH ORGANIZATION WORKING TO END INJUSTICES AGAINST IMMIGRANTS, EXPRESS WELCOME FOR ALL, AND ENSURE VALUES OF DIGNITY, JUSTICE AND HOSPITALITY

THE GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING PROGRAM FOCUSES ON BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO WORK FOR A MORE WELCOMING AND JUST CITY AS WELL AS DEVELOPING SPECIFIC PROGRAMS AND POLICIES IN THE CITY, STATE AND COUNTRY. WE FORM SMALL GROUPS WITHIN IMMIGRANT CONGREGATIONS AND ALLY CONGREGATIONS TO SHARE STORIES, ANALYZE ISSUES AND DEVELOP LEADERSHIP. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES 30 MEMBER CONGREGATIONS AND DURING 2018 WORKED TO EDUCATE BOTH THE PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ABOUT ISSUES IMPACTING THE IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY.
THE ACCOMPANIMENT PROGRAM IS THE ONLY PROGRAM IN PHILADELPHIA THAT FOSTERS LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ALLIED CONGREGATIONS AND IMMIGRANT FAMILIES TO CREATE TRANSFORMATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND A STRONG FAITH-BASED NETWORK THAT PARTICIPATES IN NSM'S ACTIVITIES. THE PROGRAM CONNECTS FAMILIES WITH TRUSTWORTHY LEGAL COUNSEL, PUBLIC WITNESSES ON COURT DATES, HELP NAVIGATING THE DETENTION SYSTEM, AND EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL SUPPORT.
EDUCATION, WITH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AT ITS CORE, PROVIDES MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WITH TOOLS TO EFFECTIVELY ORGANIZE FOR A MORE WELCOMING CITY AND COUNTRY. USING EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION, WE BUILD ON THE WISDON AND SKILLS OF OUR COMMUNITY BY OFFERING WORKSHIPS ON PUBLIC SPEAKING, FACILITATION, CAMPAIGN STRATEGY, TEAM BUILDING, AND LEADERSHIP STYLES. PARTICIPANTS IMMEDIATELY APPLY THE TRAININGS IN THE CAMPAIGNS OF NSM. MANY GRADUATES HAVE ALSO CONTINUED IN LEADERSHIP ROLES WITHIN NSM AS BOARD OR STAFF MEMBERS. EDUCATION ALSO INCLUDES KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS ON CURRENT ISSUES.
