Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
THE BERKELEY BABY BOOK PROJECT (BBBP) WORKS TO PROMOTE EARLY LITERACY IN COMMUNITIES IT SERVES. THE BBBP IS AN AFFILIATE OF DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY. THE IMAGINATION LIBRARY (IL) PROGRAM IS OUR MAIN EFFORT AND REASON FOR EXISTING. IL MAILS FREE BOOKS MONTHLY TO CHILDREN WE REGISTER. THE BOOKS ARE AGE-APPROPRIATE AND WELL-SELECTED. OUR IL PROGRAMS PROVIDE BOOK OWNERSHIP TO CHILDREN FROM BIRTH TO AGE 5 WHO LIVE WITHIN OUR GEOGRAPHICALLY DEFINED IL SERVICE AREAS. ALL CHILDREN UNDER AGE 5 IN THOSE AREAS ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE REGISTERED. OWNERSHIP OF BOOKS FROM BIRTH IS LONG SINCE PROVEN TO MAKE KINDERGARTEN READINESS NEARLY CERTAIN. WE PROMOTE THE IL PROGRAM WITH OUTREACH AND PROGRAM PARTNERSHIPS, TARGETING LOW-INCOME FAMILIES DIRECTLY AND THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT SERVE THEM. IMAGINATION LIBRARY PROMOTES LITERACY FROM THE START GENEROUSLY AND JOYFULLY. THE BOOKS ARE A GIFT TO THE CHILD, WHO OWNS THEM; THE PROGRAM IS A GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY AND ITS SCHOOLS.
