THE PURPOSE OF THE WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY SHALL BE TO MAKE AN EFFECTIVE IMPACT UPON THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF POVERTY IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND TO ASSIST THOSE LIVING IN POVERTY CONDITIONS TO HELP THEMSELVES OVERCOME THESE CONDITIONS AND TO MAKE A MORE SUCCESSFUL IMPACT UPON THEIR OWN FUTURE WELL-BEING.

COMMUNITY SERVICE BLOCK GRANT PROVIDES FUNDS FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES, GARDENS, YOUTH RECREATION, PERSONAL CARE, AND COMMUNITY ACTION TEAMS. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY PROVIDES FUNDS FOR WEATHERIZATION OF HOMES. LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROVIDES FOR FURNACE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. OUR FOOD PROGRAMS PROVIDE SUPPLIES TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES. WE RECEIVE APPROXIMATELY 19,000 VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS (APPROXIMATELY 190,000 IN DOLLAR VALUE) ANNUALLY TO HELP US PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE APPROXIMATELY 9,000 TO 10,000 LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS PER YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, WE ADMINISTER FUNDS FROM SD HOUSING TO PROVIDE RENT/DEPOSIT/UTILITY ASSISTANCE. RECEIVED CARES MONEY WHICH PROVIDES FOOD CARDS, AUTO PURCHASE/REPAIR, AND OTHER PROGRAMS DIRECTED TOWARD CLIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY COVID. RECEIVED FUNDING FOR LOW INCOME WATER ASSISTANCE (BILLS/SHUT OFFS).
