GREEN LENTS MISSION STATEMENT: TO CULTIVATE A THRIVING, RESILIENT, AND ENVIRONMENTALLY JUST LENTS COMMUNITY THROUGH ENGAGEMENT, EDUCATION, AND COLLECTIVE ACTION. 2021 HAS POSED MANY CHALLENGES TO OUR ORGANIZATION AS WE CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH THE COVID PANDEMIC. WE DEEPENED OUR PLANNING PROCESS TO ALIGN OUR MISSION, VISION, WITH ENVIRONMENTAL, FOOD, SOCIAL AND RACIAL JUSTICE. TOOL LIBRARY PROGRAM: NEW MEMBERSHIPS WERE 47% HIGHER THAN DURING 2020, AND HAVE SURPASSED 2019 LEVELS. RETURNED TO 2 DAYS OPEN A WEEK, NEARLY FULLY OPERATING HOURS, RESULTING IN: 744+ MEMBER VISITS 200+ NEW MEMBERS 1,200+ PROJECTS (1,500 TOOLS) 720+ VOLUNTEER HOURS. GARDEN AID PROGRAM: CONTINUED OUR GARDEN SWAP TO ONGOING GARDENING AID AND SEED LIBRARY TO 6 PLANT SWAPS, APRIL-OCTOBER, INCREASING OUR IMPACT ON FOOD JUSTICE: 3,000+ GALLONS OF COMPOST AND MULCH DISTRIBUTED ~300 SEED PACKETS GIVEN AWAY ~ 400 PLANTS SWAPPED 3 FREE COMMUNITY GARDENING AND HARVEST SKILL-SHARING CLASSES. LENTS YOUTH INITIATIVE: 3 INTERNS, 11 WEEKS, ~90 INTERNSHIP HOURS TOTAL. MALDEN COURT COMMUNITY ORCHARD: 150 VOLUNTEER HOURS ONE COMMUNITY MURAL PAINTED LEARNING SITE FOR 3 YOUTH INTERNS; WORKSHOP SITE FOR 3 FREE WORKSHOPS HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OF FRUIT/FOOD GROWN, DOZENS OF VOLUNTEERS. POLLINATOR HABITATS: ONE NEW SITES IN LENTS. AIR QUALITY: IN- HOME AIR FILTERS AND 500+ N-95 MASKS DISTRIBUTED TO PROTECT LENTS RESIDENTS FROM TOXIC AIR DUE TO DIESEL AND WILDFIRE POLLUTION.
