AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM HAD 35 YOUTHS AND 8 ADULTS TEACHING THE YOUTH THE CERAMIC ART PROCESS. THIS INCLUDES MAKING THE TILES, INSCRIBING THE TILES, USING DIFFERENT GLAZES TO COLOR THE TILES AND THEN ARRANGING FOR USE IN DIFFERENT PROJECTS; AFTER THEY ARE FIRED IN THE KILN.
CERAMIC ART PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM HAD 45 YOUTH AND 8 ADULTS WORKING ON THE CERAMIC TILE PROJECTS WHICH INCLUDED OBELISKS FOR A PARK, 12 BOLLARDS FOR CESAR CHAVEZ DRIVE AND THE VFW FLAG FOR EL REY MARKET. THE BOLLARD AND VFW PROJECTS WERE WELL ATTENDED AND HAD 3 LOCAL TV STATIONS FILMING PARTS OF THE INSTALLATION. SEVERAL ALDERPERSONS WERE IN ATTENDANCE AND SPOKE HIGHLY OF THE PROJECTS. THIS GAVE THE YOUTHS A CHANCE TO TALK TO THE ANNOUNCERS ABOUT LA FAMILIA AND ITS PROGRAMS. LOCAL NEWSPAPER REPORTERS WERE ALSO IN ATTENDANCE AND WROTE ARTICLES WITH INPUT FROM THE YOUTH. THE ARTISTS ALSO WENT TO CHURCHES, SCHOOLS AND FOOD MARKETS TO GET PEOPLE TO MAKE CERAMIC TILE INSCRIPTIONS RELATING TO THE PANDEMIC. ALL OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES HELPED THE ARTISTS GROW IN CONFIDENCE AND LEARN GOOD SOCIAL INTERACTIONS.
