FEBRUARY 2023 - DELIVERY OF MOBILE EYE CARE EQUIPMENT IN OUDOMXAY PROVINCE.OUR FIRST MISSION OF 2023, WAS TO DELIVER A NEW SL-17 PORTABLE SLIT LAMP THAT WE PLAN TO USE FOR THE UPCOMING OUTREACH CATARACT SURGERY MISSION IN OUDOMXAY AND PHONGSALY PROVINCES IN MAY OF THIS YEAR, ALONG WITH A QUICKSEE AUTO-REFRACTOR THAT HAD TO BE RETURNED TO US FOR REPAIR, SOFTWARE UPDATE AND CALIBRATION AS WE PLAN TO CONTINUE TESTING SCHOOL CHILDREN FOR VISUAL ACUITY AND REFRACTIVE ERROR. STARTING WITH 3 SCHOOLS IN HOUN DISTRICT, OUR OPHTHALMIC NURSE AND HER TEAM SCREENED OVER 600 CHILDREN.MAY 2023 - MOBILE EYE CARE MISSION FOR CATARACT SURGERY, REFRACTION AND DONATION OF GLASSES IN PHONGSALY PROVINCE.THIS PREVENTIVE EYE CARE MISSION WAS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE OUDOMXAY AND PHONGSALY PROVINCIAL PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENTS IN COOPERATION WITH THE LAO REHABILITATION FOUNDATION (LRF) AND SEE EYE EXPEDITION INTERNATIONAL (SEE). IT WAS CONDUCTED IN TWO DISTRICTS OF PHONGSALY PROVINCE AND AT OUDOMXAY PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL. 662 PATIENTS WERE EXAMINED, SURGERY WAS PROVIDED FOR TO 125 PATIENTS AND 328 PAIRS OF GLASSES WERE DISTRIBUTED.SEPTEMBER 2023 - THIS WAS THE FIRST MISSION OF THE EYE CARE FOR PEOPLE OF THE MEKONG RIVERSIDE PROJECT.THE PROJECT IS AIMING AT IMPROVING THE EYE HEALTH OF PEOPLE LIVING ALONG THE BANK OF THE MEKONG RIVER IN PAKBENG DISTRICT. IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE OUDOMXAY PROVINCIAL PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE AND THE PAKBENG DISTRICT HOSPITAL HEALTH OFFICE, THE LRF TEAM OF SIX PEOPLE VISITED FIVE VILLAGES AND ONE DISTRICT HOSPITAL. A TOTAL OF 389 PEOPLE WERE EXAMINED, PROVIDED VISION TESTS AND TREATED WHEN NECESSARY. EYE SURGERY WAS PERFORMED ON 17 VILLAGERS. A TOTAL OF 311 PAIRS OF GLASSES WHERE DONATED FOLLOWING REFRACTIVE ERROR EXAMS. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE SCREENED FOR VISUAL ACUITY.
