THE SHOW-ME CURRICULUM ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION (SMCAA) WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT TO MEMBER SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION OF LOCAL CURRICULUM WHICH IS ALIGNED TO THE MISSOURI SHOW-ME STANDARDS, GRADE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS, AND THAT RESULTS IN ENHANCED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.(UNCHANGED SINCE INITIAL-1998)

IN JULY 2021, SMCAA CONDUCTED QUALITY CURRICULUM RETREAT IN PERSON. THIS EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY 39 PARTICIPANTS, REPRESENTING 24 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. DURING THIS STATEWIDE EVENT, WE STUDIED THE THE IMPORTANCE OF CURRICULUM CREDIBILITY, ORGANIZING AND WRITING CURRICULUM, RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR ALL CONTENT AREAS AND HOW TO USE DATA TO MAKE CURRICULAR CHANGES. WE WERE ABLE TO HOST OUR ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER 2021. THE THEME FOR OUR CONFERENCE WAS EQUITY AND ACCESS: MOVING STUDENTS TOWARDS THEIR PERSONAL BEST. OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER, DEDRA STAFFORD, FOCUSED ON TEACHING TODAYS STUDENTS AND ALSO USING DEEPER LEARNING STRATEGIES IN THE CLASSROOM. OUR 11 BREAKOUT SESSIONS INCLUDED TOPICS RANGING FROM HOW TO CREATE AN EQUITY FRAMEWORK, USING DATA, CURRICULUM ESSENTIALS FOR PROVIDING EQUITY AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS. A TOTAL OF 60 PARTICIPANTS, REPRESENTING 36 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. EVALUATIONS WERE GOOD AND WE USED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PLANNING OUR 2022 FALL CONFERENCE. OUR WINTER SYMPOSIUM THEME WAS ALL ABOUT ASSESSMENT AND WAS HELD IN FEBRUARY 2022. IT WAS WELL ATTENDED WITH A TOTAL OF 89 ATTENDEES, REPRESENTING 55 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. THIS EVENT INCLUDED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CURRICULUM DIRECTORS THAT PRESENTED AT THIS EVENT ON ASSESSMENTS, PRIORITY STANDARDS, AND SOME IDEAS ON OUR UPCOMING STATE ACCREDITATION SYSTEM. ADDITIONAL PRESENTATIONS INCLUDED BEING TRANSPARENT WITH CURRICULUM INFORMATION. THE 3RD ANNUAL CURRICULUM BOOTCAMP HELD ON SITE IN JUNE 2022 WAS A TRAINING FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING CURRICULUM WHERE WE PROVIDED BREAKOUT SESSIONS FOR DISTRICTS WHO WERE BEGINNING THE PROCESS AND SESSIONS FOR DISTRICTS ALREADY IN THE PROCESS OF CURRICULUM REVIEW. THIS EVENT WAS PLANNED USING DIRECT FEEDBACK FROM THE PAST SCHOOL YEAR ON THE NEXT STEPS IN CURRICULUM CONSTRUCTION. THIS WAS A WELL-ATTENDED EVENT WITH 61 PARTICIPANTS, REPRESENTING 29 SCHOOL DISTRICTS AT THIS TWO-DAY EVENT.
IN ADDITION, SMCAA HELD VIRTUAL REGIONAL CURRICULUM MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER 2021, JANUARY 2022 AND MARCH OF 2022. THESE MEETINGS PROVIDED ALL UP TO DATE INFORMATION HAPPENING AT THE STATE LEVEL IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, AS WELL AS A SHORT TRAINING IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF INTEREST TO OUR MEMBERS. IN TOTAL, 410 MEMBERS AND NONMEMBERS PARTICIPATED. SOME OF THESE MEETINGS WERE VIRTUAL FOR MEMBER CONVENIENCE AND OTHERS WERE IN PERSON.
SMCAA ALSO CONDUCTED 15 IN PERSON OR VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSIONS WITH APPROXIMATELY 375 TOTAL STAFF ON THE USE OF AN ELECTRONIC CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM KNOWN AS BUILD YOUR OWN CURRICULUM (B.Y.O.C.) THAT IS DESIGNED TO FOLLOW THE UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN FORMAT OF CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT EMBRACED BY SMCAA. TEACHERS DETERMINE LEARNING TARGETS THAT ADDRESS STATE/NATIONAL STANDARDS, ORGANIZE THEM INTO UNITS, IDENTIFY THE TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED IN EACH UNIT AND DEVELOP ALIGNED ASSESSMENTS, LEARNING ACTIVITIES, AND INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS TO ASSIST STUDENTS IN THE MASTERY OF THE LEARNING TARGETS. THE TOOL RUNS REPORTS TO ASSIST DISTRICTS IN THE ASSESSMENT OF HOW WELL THEIR WRITTEN CURRICULUM IS ADDRESSING STUDENT LEARNING. THE AIM IS THAT TEACHERS USE AND ADJUST THEIR WRITTEN CURRICULUM TO GUIDE EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENT LEARNING. IN ADDITION, SMCAA HOSTED ONE BUILD YOUR OWN CURRICULUM (BYOC) USERS GROUP MEETING WITH 74 PARTICIPANTS IN ATTENDANCE INCLUDING BYOC USERS AND THOSE CONSIDERING ITS USE.
