THE SHOW-ME CURRICULUM ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION (SMCAA) WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT TO MEMBER SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION OF LOCAL CURRICULUM WHICH IS ALIGNED TO THE MISSOURI SHOW-ME STANDARDS, GRADE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS, AND THAT RESULTS IN ENHANCED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.(UNCHANGED SINCE INITIAL-1998)

IN ADDITION, SMCAA HELD VIRTUAL REGIONAL CURRICULUM MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER 2020, JANUARY 2021 AND MARCH OF 2021. THESE MEETINGS PROVIDED ALL UP TO DATE INFORMATION HAPPENING AT THE STATE LEVEL IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, AS WELL AS A SHORT TRAINING IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF INTEREST TO OUR MEMBERS. IN TOTAL, 335 MEMBERS AND NONMEMBERS PARTICIPATED.
IN JULY 2020, SMCAA CONDUCTED A VIRTUAL QUALITY CURRICULUM RETREAT. THIS EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY 16 PARTICIPANTS. DURING THIS STATEWIDE EVENT, WE STUDIED THE COMPONENTS OF STRONG CURRICULUM DESIGN AND HOW TO EVALUATE ITS EFFECTIVENESS AND CONNECTION TO QUALITY INSTRUCTION. THE EVALUATIONS GATHERED FROM THIS EVENT ASSISTED US IN CREATING A COMPLEMENT OF VIRTUAL TRAININGS EMPHASIZING EFFECTIVE ONLINE INSTRUCTION AND CREATIVE TASKS AND ASSESSMENTS. WE WERE UNABLE TO HOST OUR ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. INSTEAD, WE OFFERED A VIRTUAL FALL SERIES IN OCTOBER 2020, WE INTRODUCED NEW WAYS TO APPROACH CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION NO MATTER WHAT VENUE INSTRUCTION WAS TAKING PLACE. OUR TWO KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, PRESENTED ON THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE 2020 SCIENCE CLASSROOM AND HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE IN THE WORLD OF ZOOM, BOTH INCLUDING USEFUL STRATEGIES IN ALTERNATIVE INSTRUCTIONAL SETTING. A TOTAL OF 17 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED THIS EVENT. WE ALSO MADE THE RECORDINGS OF THIS FALL SERIES AVAILABLE TO OUR MEMBERSHIP AT REDUCED RATE VIA GOTOWEBINAR HUB. OUR WINTER SYMPOSIUM IN FEBRUARY 2021 WAS OUR FIRST STATE EVENT ON SITE. IT WAS WELL ATTENDED WITH A TOTAL OF 65 ATTENDEES IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL. THE TITLE OF THIS EVENT WAS HEADING TO THE SCHOOL YEAR FINISH LINE: ADJUSTING TO CHANGE AND CHALLENGE. THIS EVENT INCLUDED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CURRICULUM DIRECTORS THAT PRESENTED AT THIS EVENT ON NEW EXPECTATIONS, PRIORITY STANDARDS, AND SOME IDEAS ON OUR UPCOMING STATE ACCREDITATION SYSTEM. THE 2ND ANNUAL CURRICULUM BOOTCAMP HELD ON SITE IN JUNE 2021 WAS A TRAINING SPECIFICALLY FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING CONTENT SPECIFIC CURRICULUM WHERE WE PROVIDED BREAKOUT SESSIONS FOR EACH OF THE CORE CURRICULAR AREAS. THIS EVENT WAS PLANNED USING DIRECT FEEDBACK FROM THE PAST SCHOOL YEAR ON THE NEXT STEPS IN CURRICULUM CONSTRUCTION. THIS WAS A WELL-ATTENDED EVENT WITH 76 PARTICIPANTS TO THIS TWO DAY EVENT.
SMCAA ALSO CONDUCTED 12 IN PERSON OR VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSIONS WITH APPROXIMATELY 182 TOTAL STAFF ON THE USE OF AN ELECTRONIC CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM KNOWN AS BUILD YOUR OWN CURRICULUM (B.Y.O.C.) THAT IS DESIGNED TO FOLLOW THE UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN FORMAT OF CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT EMBRACED BY SMCAA. TEACHERS DETERMINE LEARNING TARGETS THAT ADDRESS STATE/NATIONAL STANDARDS, ORGANIZE THEM INTO UNITS, IDENTIFY THE TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED IN EACH UNIT AND DEVELOP ALIGNED ASSESSMENTS, LEARNING ACTIVITIES, AND INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS TO ASSIST STUDENTS IN THE MASTERY OF THE LEARNING TARGETS. THE TOOL RUNS REPORTS TO ASSIST DISTRICTS IN THE ASSESSMENT OF HOW WELL THEIR WRITTEN CURRICULUM IS ADDRESSING STUDENT LEARNING. THE AIM IS THAT TEACHERS USE AND ADJUST THEIR WRITTEN CURRICULUM TO GUIDE EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENT LEARNING.
