HOUSING - WE PARTNER WITH LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES INJEFFERSON CITY AND THE COLE COUNTY SURROUNDING AREAS TO HELP BUILD ORREFURBISH HOMES WITH THE GOAL OF HOMEOWNERSHIP. PARTNER FAMILIES MUSTSHOW A WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER WITH US BY VOLUNTEERING 350-450 HOURS OFSWEAT EQUITY EITHER ON OTHER FAMILYS HOUSES OR THEIR OWN BUILD BEFOREPURCHASING THEIR HOME. HABITAT FINANCES THE HOMES WITH A 20-25 YEARINTEREST-FREE MORTGAGE. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, WE SOLD 4 HOMES TOJEFFERSON CITY FAMILIES AND ENDED OUR FISCAL YEAR WITH 11 HOMES UNDERCONSTRUCTION.
RESTORE - THE HABITAT RESTORE ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF FURNITURE,APPLIANCES, HOUSEHOLD GOODS, PLUMBING FIXTURES, DOORS, WINDOWS,CABINETS, AND COUNTERTOPS. THIS RESTORE IS ONE OF OUR LARGESTFUNDRAISERS, SERVING FOUR PURPOSES IN THE COMMUNITY. IT KEEPS THOUSANDSOF POUNDS OF MATERIALS OUT OF THE LANDFILLS, ALLOWS FOR A PLACE FORRESIDENTS WHO NO LONGER HAVE A USE FOR THEIR ITEMS, A PLACE TO DONATETHEM, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR BARGAIN SEEKERS TO PURCHASE USED ITEMSAND SAVE MONEY, AND IT IS ONE OF OUR LARGEST FUNDRAISERS AS MENTIONEDABOVE.
FAMILY SUPPORT AND EDUCATION - ONCE AN APPLICANT IS APPROVED BY THEBOARD, THEY ARE MATCHED WITH A SUPPORT PARTNER. THIS PARTNER MENTORSTHEM THROUGH THE PROCESS OF HOMEOWNERSHIP AND THE COMPLETION OF THEIRBUILD. WHILE BEING A PARTNER FAMILY CAN TAKE 12-18 MONTHS, THEY ATTENDA MONTHLY HOMEOWNERSHIP EDUCATION CLASS. REQUIRED CLASSES INCLUDEPERSONAL FINANCE, CITY CODES, MORTGAGE CLOSING DOCUMENTS, HOUSEHOLDMAINTENANCE, HOMEOWNER INSURANCE, AND WILLS AND TRUSTS. THESE COURSESARE HELD AT THE HABITAT OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM ONCE A MONTH AT NO COSTTO THE FAMILIES.
