TULSA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY IS AN ECUMENICAL, NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN HOUSING MINISTRY DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING POVERTY HOUSING WHILE PROVIDING HOMEOWNERSHIP SOLUTIONS INCLUDING NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION, REFURBISHMENT TO EXISTING HOMES, AND HOME PRESERVATION THROUGH REPAIRS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THOSE IN NEED IN TULSA COUNTY. TULSA HABITAT HAS HELPED OVER 480 FAMILIES, PLUS SUPPORTED INTERNATIONAL HOUSING EFFORTS ASSISTING OVER 350 FAMILIES WITH HABITAT INTERNATIONAL. LOCALLY, FAMILIES MAKE APPLICATION TO THE HABITAT HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM. ONCE ACCEPTED, FAMILIES COMPLETE AN EDUCATION PROGRAM INCLUDING MONEY MANAGEMENT TRAINING, HOMEOWNERSHIP PREPARATION WORKSHOPS, AND CONSTRUCTION TRAINING INCLUDING HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES BUILDING COMPONENTS USED IN HABITAT HOMES. FAMILIES EITHER HELP IN BUILDING THEIR NEW HOMES WITH HABITAT OR PURCHASE A REACQUIRED/REMODELED HABITAT HOUSE. FAMILIES REPAY ZERO-INTEREST, NO-PROFIT MORTGAGES HELD BY HABITAT. PRINCIPAL FROM MORTGAGES GOES BACK INTO HELPING HABITAT SERVE MORE FAMILIES, PROVIDE MORE HOME OWNERSHIP SOLUTIONS, AND BUILDING FUTURE HOMES. HABITAT USES LOCAL PRODUCTS AND LOCAL WORKERS TO PRODUCE SIMPLE, DECENT, AND AFFORDABLE HOMES.
RESTORE - BECAUSE IT IS COSTLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY UNSOUND TO OVERFLOW LANDFILLS WITH WASTE FROM CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION, RESTORE ACTS AS A "THRIFT SHOP" FOR BUILDING MATERIALS AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, OFFERING THEM FOR SALE AT HUGELY DISCOUNTED PRICES TO THE PUBLIC. PROCEEDS FROM RESTORE SALES SUPPORT THE HABITAT HOME BUILDING PROGRAM WHICH PARTNERS WITH HARD WORKING, LIMITED INCOME TULSA FAMILIES TO BUILD SIMPLE, DECENT, AFFORDABLE HOMES.
