COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WHICH IS BUILDING A POOL OF FUNDS TO PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDS OF THE RESIDENTS OF MONROE COUNTY, IOWA. THESE MONIES WILL BE USED FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS; ARTS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING HISTORIC PRESERVATION; WELLNESS/RECREATION PROGRAMS; HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS; PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS; PUBLIC FACILITY CONSTRUCTION; REHABILITATION ANDMAINTENANCE; AND AGRICULTURE, NATURAL RESOURCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS.

COUNTY BETTERMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND. SPECIFICALLY, MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALED $24,650 AND WERE AWARDED TO LOCAL STUDENTS TO HELP DEFRAY THE COST OF ATTENDING HIGHER EDUCATION COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. MONIES WERE GIVEN TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS FOR HISTORICAL, RECREATIONAL, CULTURAL, CEMETERY, AND TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. MONIES FOR THESE PURPOSES WERE RECEIVED FROM THE GREATER DES MOINES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AND FROM PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS AND COMPANIES.
