THE STUDENT OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (SOMA) IS THE NATION'S LARGEST NETWORK OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL STUDENTS. WE ARE AN AMERICAN OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION (AOA)-AFFILIATED, STUDENT-LED AND STUDENT-DRIVEN ORGANIZATION WITH DIRECT REPRESENTATION TO THE AOA. SOMA SHALL: 1. EDUCATE AND PREPARE OSTEOPATHIC LEADERS AND ADVOCATES. 2. MAINTAIN OPEN AND TRANSPARENT LINES OF COMMUNICATION TO OUR STUDENTS MEMBERS AS WE CONTINUALLT ADPAT TO THE EVOLVING NEEDS OF OUR MEMBERS AND ORGANIZATION. 3. ADVANCE COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS THAT PROMOTE OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE IN THE GREATER HEALTHCARE COMMUNITY. 4. SOMA PROVIDES THREE NATIONAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE ANNUALLY FOR OSTEOPATHIC STUDENTS. THESE EVENTS ARE FOCUSED ON ISSUES IMPACTING THE OSTEOPATHIC PROFESSION, ADVOCACY, SKILLS LABS, AND INTERACTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. SOMA HOLDS TWO RESEARCH SYMPOSIA ANNUALLY AND MONTHLY RESEARCH SESSIONS. SOMA COMMUNICATES WITH ITS MEMBERS VIA WEEKLY DIGITAL NEWS, REGIONAL UPDATES, ONLINE COMMUNITIES, SOMA MAGAZINE 'THE FUTURE DO- AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS, REQUEST FEEDBACK ON CRITICAL ISSUES, AND PROMOTE RELEVANT PROGRAMS. SOMA ALSO HAS A PRE-MEDICAL STUDENT SECTION WHICH DELIVERS EDUCATION ABOUT THE OSTEOPATHIC PROFESSION AND PREPARING FOR MEDICAL SCHOOL TO UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS.
