THE MISSION OF THE CALIFORNIA CENTER FOR COOPERATION DEVELOPMENT IS TO PROMOTE COOPERATIVES AS A VIBRANT BUSINESS MODEL TO ADDRESS THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION, AND BY PROVIDING INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.

GENERAL COOPERATIVE EDUCATION AND OUTREACHCCCD PROVIDES EDUCATION ABOUT HOW THE CO-OP BUSINESS MODEL CAN BE USED TO CREATE AND SAVE JOBS, CREATE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES, OFFER CHILDCARE, HELP FARMERS OR ENTREPRENEURS JOIN TOGETHER TO GAIN PURCHASING POWER OR BETTER COMPETE IN THE MARKETPLACE, INCREASE FOOD SECURITY THOUGH COOPERATIVE OWNED GROCERIES, AND CAPTURE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES BY WORKING TOGETHER. OUR WEBSITE, PUBLIC OUTREACH, AND RESPONDING TO INQUIRIES ARE MEDIUMS FOR EDUCATION. DURING THE PANDEMIC, ZOOM HAS BEEN AN IMPORTANT PLATFORM. DURING 2021, WWW.CCCD.COOP LOGGED ALMOST 27,955 UNIQUE VISITORS WHO USED THE SITE'S START-UP TUTORIAL, DOWNLOADABLE PUBLICATIONS, CO-OP NEWS, VIDEOS, AND LINKS TO ADDITIONAL RESOURCES. DURING 2021, CCCD RESPONDED TO MORE THAN 318 SUBSTANTIVE TELEPHONE AND EMAIL INQUIRIES. CCCD ALSO REACHES OUT VIA FACEBOOK AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCECCCD PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN A VARIETY OF WAYS, INCLUDING DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE, GOVERNANCE TRAINING FOR CO-OPS, AND RESPONDING TO REQUESTS. DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE INCLUDES PERFORMING FEASIBILITY & BUSINESS PLANNING, START-UP, EXPANSION, AND RELATED SUPPORT. OUR WORK HAS BEEN CHALLENGED BY THE PANDEMIC, SOME CLIENTS HAD LIMITED TECHNOLOGY ACCESSIBILITY AND/OR KNOWLEDGE AND WE DID OUR BEST TO HELP THEM MANAGE AND USED ZOOM FOR TRAININGS AND MEETINGS. WE EDUCATED COOPERATIVES ABOUT PANDEMIC RELIEF PROGRAMS AND HELPED SOME PREPARE APPLICATIONS. OUR EFFORTS TO LAUNCH A WORKER COOP THAT PROVIDES CO-OP HOME CARE SERVICES WERE CHALLENGING DUE TO LACK OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT, AS WELL AS WORKER AND CLIENT FEARS. WE HAVE ALSO BECOME A CERTIFIED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDER FOR ROC USA, A NATIONAL NON-PROFIT DEDICATED TO HELPING RESIDENTS COOPERATIVELY PURCHASE THEIR MANUFACTURED HOME PARK.
COOPERATIVE CONFERENCES AND EVENTSIN 2020, CCCD ADAPTED TO PANDEMIC CONDITIONS BY MOVING CONFERENCE CONTENT TO ZOOM WEBINAR, WHICH CONTINUED IN 2021. OUR ANNUAL AGRICULTURAL DIRECTOR AND EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE AS WELL AS OUR CALIFORNIA CO-OP CONFERENCE CONVENED IN THIS MANNER. CCCD STAFF ALSO PRESENTED AND PARTICIPATED AT ONLINE CONFERENCES AND EVENTS.
