WALNUT WAY WORKS FROM STRENGTHS-BASED PROGRAMMING AND IS CALLED TO A VISION OF ABUNDANCE. SINCE ITS PURPOSEFUL BEGINNINGS, WALNUT WAY HAS RECLAIMED ITS NEIGHBORHOOD, DRIVEN OUT CRIME, AND CREATED A CLOSE-KNIT NEIGHBORHOOD OF COMPASSIONATE AND INVOLVED RESIDENTS.

IN 2015, WALNUT WAY OPENED PHASE 1 OF THE TWO-PHASE INNOVATION AND WELLNESS COMMONS, A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN AND COOPERATIVELY FUNDED COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT THAT IS DESIGNED TO REVITALIZE THE AREA'S MAIN COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR, CREATE SUSTAINABLE JOBS, AND INCREASE ACCESS TO A VARIETY OF INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, PROGRAMS, AND INITIATIVES.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITES INCLUDE BLUE SKIES LANDSCAPING, WHICH WAS LAUNCHED IN 2012. IT IS A PATHWAY TO EMPLOYMENT AND NEIGHBORHOOD PROSPERITY IN A COMMUNITY WHERE THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS THREE TIMES THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. THE PROGRAM TRAINS AND EMPLOYS RESIDENTS WHO HAVE TRADITIONALLY FACED EMPLOYMENT CHALLENGES TO MAINTAIN WALNUT WAY'S URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPUS AND EXECUTE LANDSCAPING CONTRACTS ON PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PROPERTIES CITYWIDE.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT RESIDENT-LED PROGRAMMING AT WALNUT WAY ENGAGES NEIGHBORS TO INCREASE COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS AND ADDRESS THE BARRIERS THAT INHIBIT EQUITABLE HEALTH POLICY, PREVENTION, AND PRACTITIONER ACCESS.
