ADULT LEARNER SUPPORT - THE COUNCIL PROVIDES BOTH ESL (ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE) AND ABE (ADULT BASIC EDUCATION) EDUCATIONAL SERVICES. ESL SERVICES ARE FOR LEARNERS WHOSE NATIVE LANGUAGE IS NOT ENGLISH. ABE SERVICES ARE FOR NATIVE-ENGLISH SPEAKING ADULTS WHO WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR READING, WRITING, AND MATH SKILLS. THE PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES CITIZENSHIP CLASSES. CITIZENSHIP CLASSES HELP ADULTS PREPARE FOR THE NATURALIZATION PROCESS AND IS FOLLOWED WITH AN EIGHT-WEEK SERIES OF CLASSES THAT PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE N-400 FORM, INTERVIEW, AND CIVICS TEST. TOGETHER WITH MORE THAN 200 VOLUNTEER TUTORS, APPROXIMATELY 600 ADULTS ARE HELPED EACH YEAR.
