GROWING DETROIT'S EAST JEFFERSON CORRIDOR AND ITS NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGH FACILITATIVE LEADERSHIP, COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS, AND INNOVATIVE AND IMPACTFUL PROGRAMMING.

INVEST JEFFERSON: JEI THROUGH DIRECT ACTIVITIES AND THOSE OF ITS DEVELOPMENT SUBSIDIARY SEEKS TO SUPPORT AND DEVELOP INCLUSIVE NEIGHBORHOODS AND BUSINESS DISTRICTS THAT ALLOW LONGTIME DETROITERS TO BENEFIT FROM THE CITY'S RESURGENCE. IN 2021 JEI COMPLETED THE RENOVATION OF THE 6400 SQUARE FOOT KRESGE BUILDING WHICH NOW HOUSES THE NEIGHBORHOOD RESOURCE HUB. JEI ALSO CONTINUED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 23 UNIT MARLBOROUGH APARTMENT PROJECT. IN ADDITION, JEI PROVIDED SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES TO MORE THAN 600 BUSINESSES THROUGHOUT THE EAST JEFFERSON CORRIDOR AND ITS ADJOINING NEIGHBORHOODS.
CLEAN AND SAFE: SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS SUPPORT THRIVING BUSINESSES. THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL COMPONENT OF JEI'S CORRIDOR AND NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY. JEI WORKS WITH WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY'S CENTER OF R URBAN STUDIES TO MONITOR CRIME HOTSPOTS AND DEVELOP COMMUNITY DRIVE RESPONSE TO CRIME WITHIN THE FIVE NEIGHBORHOODS THAT JEI SERVES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DETROIT POLICE DEPARTMENT, JEI RAISES FUNDS TO SUPPORT SECONDARY POLICE PATROLS. SINCE 2013, JEI HAS DRIVEN A 43% REDUCTION IN CRIME RATES. IN 2021, JEI'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RECOVERY ADVOCATES PROVIDED SERVICES TO MORE THAN 850 VICTIMS ON INTIMATE PARTNERS VIOLENCE.
LIVE JEFFERSON: JEI'S HOUSING SERVICES HELP DETROITERS REMAIN IN THEIR HOMES BY LINKING THEM TO CRITICAL RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THEIR HOMES AND BUILD WEALTH THROUGH HOMEOWNERSHIP. IN 2021, JEI PROVIDED MORE THAN 1500 HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS WITH A RANGE OF SERVICES INCLUDING HUD HOUSING COUNSELLING, FORECLOSURE PREVENTION, HOME REPAIR GRANTS/LOANS, AND DISASTER RECOVERY HELP. SINCE 2013, JEI HAS SUPPORTED MORE THAN 6,500 HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS. IN 2021, JEI ALSO HELPED MORE THAN 700 HOMEOWNERS RECOVER FROM THE DISASTROUS FLOODS OF JUNE THROUGH THE ALLOCATION OF HOME REPAIR AND DISASTER RECOVERY SERVICES. JEI REPLACED MORE THAN 145 FURNACES AND HOT WATER TANKS, REMOVED DEBRIS FROM AND SANITIZED 100 BASEMENTS, AND LINKED MORE THAN 500 RESIDENTS WITH DISASTER RECOVERY RESOURCES FROM FEMA, THE STATE OF MICHIGAN AND OTHERS.
ENGAGE JEFFERSON: JEI SEEKS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGHOUT THE EAST JEFFERSON CORRIDOR THROUGH UNIQUE PLACEMAKING AND ARTS EVENTS. IN 2021, JEI PRODUCED JAZZIN' AT THE VANITY, A FREE STREET ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL THAT ATTRACTED MORE THAN 5,000 ATTENDEES TO THE HISTORIC JEFFERSON CHALMERS BUSINESS DISTRICT. ENGAGE JEFFERSON ALSO SEEKS TO BUILD INVITING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SUPPORTING THE ARTS VIA FIDUCIARY AND PLANNING SUPPORT. JEI SERVED AS THE FIDUCIARY TO SUPPORT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHARLES MAGEE LEGACY ART PARK IN THE EAST VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD.
