SECOND HARVEST NORTHERN LAKES FOOD BANK'S PRIMARY PROGRAM IS FOOD BANKING. AS THE ONLY "FOOD BANK" SERVING NE MINNESOTA (ST. LOUIS, CARLTON, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES) AND NW WISCONSIN (DOUGLAS, BAYFIELD, ASHLAND AND IRON COUNTIES), WE RESCUE NATIONALLY AND REGIONALLY DONATED FOOD FROM MANUFACTURERS, WHOLESALERS, RETAILERS AND GROWERS, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO OVER 68 NON-PROFIT AGENCY PARTNERS (SOUP KITCHENS, FOOD SHELVES, SHELTERS AND OTHER CHARITABLE PARTNERS). IN 2021, WE PROVIDED 4,627,611 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCT, THE EQUIVALENT OF 3.7 MILLION MEALS, TO OUR AGENCY PARTNERS. WE ESTIMATE THAT OUR NATIONALLY AND REGIONALLY DONATED, AND PURCHASED FOOD, REACHED AND FED APPROXIMATELY 44,000 PEOPLE IN NEED. VOLUNTEERS ARE CRITICAL TO OUR FOOD BANK AND ITS OPERATIONS. VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 6,462 HOURS TO OUR FOOD BANK PROGRAM WHICH WAS THE EQUIVALENT OF 3.1 FULL-TIME POSITIONS AT OUR ORGANIZATION.
OUR FOOD SHELF IS A PROGRAM OPERATED BY SECOND HARVEST NORTHERN LAKES FOOD BANK TO PROVIDE FOOD DIRECTLY TO PEOPLE IN OUR AREA. IN 2021, WE PROVIDED FOOD SHELF SERVICE DIRECTLY TO AN AVERAGE OF 1,025 IN-NEED CHILDREN, ADULTS AND SENIORS PER MONTH WHO RESIDE IN HERMANTOWN, COMMUNITIES THAT ARE NORTH AND/OR ADJACENT. WE DISTRIBUTED 673,803 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCT TO OUR FOOD SHELF PARTICIPANTS WHICH IS THE EQUIVALENT OF 539,042 MEALS. ON AVERAGE, OUR FOOD SHELF PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED A 15-DAY SUPPLY OF FOOD FOR EACH MEMBER IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD AT EACH VISIT. OUR FOOD SHELF IS OPERATED ALMOST ENTIRELY BY VOLUNTEERS. DESPITE THE CONTINUED IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN 2021, VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 2,331 HOURS OF SERVICE OR 92% OF THE HOURS NEEDED TO CARRY OUT THIS PROGRAM WHICH WAS THE EQUIVALENT OF 1.1 FULL-TIME POSITIONS AT OUR ORGANIZATION.
THE CORONAVIRUS FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CFAP) WAS A TEMPORARY, NEW USDA PROGRAM DEVELOPED IN 2020 TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO U.S. FARMERS, MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN, AND ENSURE ADDITIONAL FOOD FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. SECOND HARVEST NORTHERN LAKES FOOD BANK OPERATED THIS PROGRAM JUNE 2020 THROUGH MAY 2021. IN 2021, WE PROVIDED 542,340 POUNDS OF ADDITIONAL, SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD, THE EQUIVALENT OF 433,872 MEALS, TO FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND SENIORS THROUGHOUT NE MINNESOTA AND NW WISCONSIN WHO WERE IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. IN 2021, VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 351 HOURS OF SERVICE OR THE EQUIVALENT OF A .17 FULL-TIME POSITION TO CARRY OUT THIS PROGRAM.

VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 4,037.5 HOURS TO OUR FOOD BANK PROGRAM IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF 2022, WHICH WAS THE EQUIVALENT OF 3.9 FULL-TIME POSITIONS AT OUR ORGANIZATION.
OUR FOOD SHELF IS A PROGRAM OPERATED BY SECOND HARVEST NORTHERN LAKES FOOD BANK TO PROVIDE FOOD DIRECTLY TO PEOPLE IN OUR AREA. FROM JANUARY TO JUNE OF 2022, WE PROVIDED FOOD SHELF SERVICE DIRECTLY TO AN AVERAGE OF 1,728 IN-NEED CHILDREN, ADULTS AND SENIORS PER MONTH WHO RESIDE IN HERMANTOWN, COMMUNITIES THAT ARE NORTH AND/OR ADJACENT. WE DISTRIBUTED 539,041 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCT TO OUR FOOD SHELF PARTICIPANTS WHICH IS THE EQUIVALENT OF 431,233 MEALS. ON AVERAGE, OUR FOOD SHELF PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED A 14-DAY SUPPLY OF FOOD FOR EACH MEMBER IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD AT EACH VISIT. OUR FOOD SHELF IS OPERATED ALMOST ENTIRELY BY VOLUNTEERS. FROM JANUARY TO JUNE OF 2022, (SEE SCHEDULE O), VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED 2,318 HOURS OF SERVICE OR 92% OF THE HOURS NEEDED TO CARRY OUT THIS PROGRAM WHICH WAS THE EQUIVALENT OF 2.2 FULL-TIME POSITIONS AT OUR ORGANIZATION.
MOBILE FOOD PANTRY PROGRAMS ARE OPERATED BY SECOND HARVEST NORTHERN LAKES FOOD BANK TO SUPPLEMENT FOOD DISTRIBUTION IN NE MINNESOTA AND NW WISCONSIN COMMUNITIES WHERE SERVICE IS LIMITED OR IN GREATER DEMAND THAN LOCAL RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE. FROM JANUARY TO JUNE OF 2022, WE PROVIDED SERVICE IN FIVE (5) LOCATIONS, INCLUDING TWO NEW LOCATIONS, SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 1,657 IN-NEED CHILDREN, ADULTS AND SENIORS PER MONTH. WE DISTRIBUTED 225,565 POUNDS OF FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCT TO OUR PANTRY PARTICIPANTS WHICH IS THE EQUIVALENT OF 180,452 MEALS. ON AVERAGE, OUR MOBILE FOOD PANTRY PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED A 6-DAY SUPPLY OF FOOD FOR EACH MEMBER IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD AT EACH VISIT.
