THE MISSION OF SHELBY SENIOR SERVICES, INC IS TO RESPOND TO THE EVER-CHANGING NEEDS OF SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES, TO AFFECT IN POSITIVE WAYS THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE, AND TO ASSIST IN MAINTAINING THEIR INDEPENDENCE.

TRANSPORTATION: VEHICLES ARE USED TO TRANSPORT WITHIN SHELBY COUNTY, INDIANA, SENIOR CITIZENS TO DOCTORS, GROCERY STORES, AND TO LUNCH AND OTHER ACTIVITIES AT TEH SENIOR CENTER. DURING FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2019 186 INDIVIDUAL SENIORS MADE MULTIBLE RIDES ON OUR VEHICLES. ON AVERAGE, WE UTILIZE A MINIMUM OF FOUR DRIVERS PER DAY AND UP TO SEVEN DRIVERS TWO DAYS A WEEK.
SENIOR CENTER (HORIZON CENTER) / HEALTH PROMOTIONS/ INFORMATION ASSISTANCE: PROVIDES A MEETING PLACE FOR SENIORS TO PARTICIPATE IN GROUP ACTIVITES INCLUDING LUNCH PROGRAMS, CLASSES, HEALTH PROGRAMS AND OTHER SOCIAL INTERACTION OPPORTUNITIES. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2019, MORE THAN 42,979 INDIVIDUALS WERE IN ATTENDANCE ( APPROXIMATELY 922 DIFFERENT PARTICIPANTS) AT ACTIVITIES AT THE FOUR HORIZON CENTERS INCLUDING VARIOUS CRAFT, COOKING, KNITTING INSTRUCTION AS WELL AS BINGO, EUCHER AND OTHER GROUP ACTIVITIES. ADDITIONALLY, LIMITED SERVICES WERE PROVIDED THROUGH OUR EXISTING SATELLITE CENTERS IN NEARBY FAIRLAND AND WALDRON COMMUNITIES,BOTH LOCATED IN SHELBY COUNTY.
SOCIAL SERVICES: INCLUDES CAREGIVER/ OUTREACH: SERVICES, HEALTH PROMOTIONS AND INFORMATION ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO SENIOR CITIZENS INCLUDING LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING, LAUNDRY, SHOPPING, PERSONAL CARE, AND MEAL PREPARATION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2019, 288 FAMILIES / INDIVIDUALS RECIEVED 1,885 UNITS OF CAREGIVER ASSISTANCE.
