Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ADULT DAY SERVICES (ADS) IS PART OF THE CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR SENIORS AS THEY BECOME MORE DEPENDENT ON OTHERS FOR BASIC SUPPORT. ADS IS A NON-RESIDENTIAL FACILITY THAT PROVIDES BASIC NEEDS TO SENIORS ON A DAILY BASIS. DIGNITY IS GIVEN TO OUR PARTICIPANTS THROUGH MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES AND SOCIALIZATION BASED IN SHARED EXPERIENCES. IN ADDITION TO ENRICHING THEIR DAILY LIVES, THE SERVICES PROVIDED HELP CLIENTS REMAIN IN THEIR FAMILY HOMES LONGER THAN OTHERWISE POSSIBLE. THIS PROGRAM WAS SEVERELY IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC. IN SPITE OF THE EXTENSIVE EFFORTS OF STAFF, BOARD MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS OVER MULTIPLE YEARS, THE DAILY CENSUS REMAINED AT A FRACTION OF PRE-PANDEMIC NUMBERS. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED AND THE FINANCIAL IMPACT TO THE AGENCY, THE BOARD MADE THE DECISION TO CEASE OPERATIONS IN MAY OF 2023.
THE FOOD PANTRY PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO THOSE WHO ARE FOOD INSECURE. FOOD IS OBTAINED FROM THE AKRON-CANTON REGIONAL FOODBANK AND THROUGH DONATIONS FROM PARISHES, ORGANIZATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE (EA) HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN A CORE SERVICE OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES AGENCIES WITHIN THE DIOCESE OF YOUNGSTOWN. IN THIS TRADITION, THE AGENCY PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS WITH PAYMENT ASSISTANCE FOR UTILITIES AND RENT. BASIC NEEDS SERVICES SUCH AS EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF AND FOOD PANTRY HELP THE NEEDY IN BOTH STARK AND PORTAGE COUNTIES. MEETING OTHER BASIC NEEDS, THE AGENCY DISTRIBUTES COATS, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, CHRISTMAS GIFTS, AND ASSISTS IN ATTAINING FURNITURE AND CAR REPAIRS. THE AGENCY'S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO ADDRESS THE EMERGENT NEEDS OF PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY, WHICH OFTEN MEANS CONNECTING THEM WITH APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS OUTSIDE OF THE AGENCY.
THE FIRST STEP MINISTRY SEEKS TO MEET THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF INFANTS IN FAMILIES THAT ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED. SUPPORT TO OUR CLIENTS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO SUPPLYING DIAPERS, FORMULA, CLOTHING, AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT. OUR CASE MANAGERS WORK WITH BOTH PREGNANT WOMEN AND YOUNG FAMILIES TO FIGURE OUT THE BEST OPTIONS FOR SUPPORTING THEIR INFANT. MANY OF OUR FIRST STEP FAMILIES ARE SUPPORTED BY OTHER PROGRAMS IN OUR AGENCY AS WE ATTEMPT TO HELP PARENTS THROUGH DIFFICULT LIFE SITUATIONS.
