PROVIDE PHYSICAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES TO THE COMMUNITY UTILIZING A SWIMMING POOL, GYMNASIUMS, AND PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS TO DISADVANTAGED INDIVIDUALS.
YOUTH AND ADULT SPORTS: EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA SPORTS SEEK TO BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY PARTICIPANT. THE IDEALS ARE HIGH FOR BOTH YOUTH AND ADULT TEAMS AND LEAGUES. THE Y'S APPROACH IS THAT EVERYBODY PLAYS, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY. THE Y'S SPORTS LEAGUES TEACH COOPERATION AND TEAMWORK, HELP MEET THE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF KIDS, DEVELOP SKILLS, BUILD SELF-ESTEEM, STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES.
GOOD HEALTH AND FITNESS: THE YMCA IS COMMITTED TO STOPPING THE SKYROCKETING RATE OF INACTIVITY THAT LEADS TO OBESITY AND ILLNESS. PREVENTION IS THE KEY WORD OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH AT THE EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA. OUR PROGRAMS ARE ORGANIZED AROUND THE PRINCIPLE THAT THERE IS A ONENESS OF BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT. OUR PROGRAMS AIM TO HELP PRODUCE A LONG AND PRODUCTIVE LIFE AND TO HAVE FUN LIVING IT. THE Y'S WAY OF LIFE REQUIRES EDUCATION IN GOOD NUTRITION, PROPER EXERCISE, AVOIDANCE OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE, AND DEALING WITH STRESS. THE EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA IS A MAJOR PROVIDER OF AFFORDABLE HEALTH AND FITNESS PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES, ALL ABILITIES AND ALL INCOMES. THE EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA PROVIDES FITNESS CLASSES, REHABILITATION EXERCISE, FITNESS EVALUATIONS, LIFESTYLE ASSESSMENTS, DIET ANALYSIS, ETC. AS WELL AS PROGRAMS FOR THOSE WITH ARTHRITIS, DIABETES, AND OTHER CHRONIC DISEASES.
SENIORS: THE EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA OPERATES PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE THE PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, AND MENTAL HEALTH OF SENIORS. SENIOR CITIZENS NEED A PLACE TO GO, A PLACE THEY CAN DEPEND ON. THEY NEED TO CONTINUE HAVING A MISSION IN THEIR LIVES, A SENSE OF DIRECTION AND PURPOSE AND A CHANCE TO VOLUNTEER. THEY NEED TO HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER AGE LEVELS AND CULTURES. THE EAST LIVERPOOL YMCA OFFERS SPECIAL PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO HELP OLDER ADULTS MAINTAIN THE BEST PHYSICAL CONDITION POSSIBLE WHICH, IN TURN, HELPS THEM MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE AND ALSO HELPS ADDRESS CHRONIC DISEASE AND HEALTH CARE CRISES.
