Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
HEALTHY GRIEVING IS AN ACTIVE PROCESS AND HEALING REQUIRES GRIEF WORK. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS ARE INCREASINGLY BEING RECOGNIZED AS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO PROMOTE HEALING THROUGH EDUCATION AND SUPPORT AFTER THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP MEMBERS REPORT A STRONG, POSITIVE IMPACT BASED ON BOTH THE PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS OF GROUPS AND THE SAFE HAVEN SETTING THEY PROVIDE FOR EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION AND RELEASE OF FEELINGS. THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN OUR FREE, OPEN-ENDED GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS GRIEVERS WILL FIND MANY BENEFITS, INCLUDING: EMTIONAL AND PHYSICAL SUPPORT IN A SAFE AND NON-JUDGMENTAL ENVIRONMENT; COPING SKILLS TO UTILIZE THROUGHOUT THE GRIEF JOURNEY; HOPE THROUGH COMPANIONSHIP WITH PEOPLE WHO "GET IT- AND UNDERSTAND FIRST HAND; INCREASED UNDERSTANDING OF HOW CHILDREN AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS REACT TO LOSS; AND, PERMISSION TO GRIEVE AND PERMISSION TO LIVE A HAPPY, PRODUCTIVE LIFE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2021 THE GRIEFCARE PLACE PROVIDED 2,187 HOURS OF GRIEF SUPPORT SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE TO 193 INDIVIDUALS. THERE WERE 106 SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS PLUS 30 SPECIAL PROGRAMS HELD. PARTICIPANTS IN OUR GROUPS AND PROGRAMS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF PRACTICAL WAYS TO WORK THROUGH THE FOUR TASKS OF MOURNING: 1) ACCEPT THE REALITY OF THE LOSS; 2) PROCESS THE PAIN OF GRIEF; 3) ADJUST TO A WORLD WITHOUT THE DECEASED; AND, 4) FIND AN ENDURING CONNECTION WITH THE DECEASED WHILE MOVING FORWARD WITH LIFE. OUR SUPPORT GROUPS RUN CONTINUOUSLY AND ARE OPEN ENDED, ALOWING PARTICIPANTS TO PARTICIPATE FOR AS ALONG AS THEY FEEL THE NEED TO. THIS IS IMPORTANT SINCE THE TIME NEEDED TO GRIEVE AND HEAL VARIES DEPENDING ON THE PERSON AND THEIR CURCUMSTANCES.
