Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

DIA BRINGS TOGETHER RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES & OTHER GROUPS TO LEAD STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, CRIME REDUCTION, BEAUTIFICATION AND COMMUNITY EVENTS IN THE DIMOND.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFICATION - THE DIA CREATES AND NURTURES A CLEAN, GREEN AND ARTISTICALLY RICH COMMUNITY FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS. KEEP DIMOND CLEAN (KDC), STARTED IN 2009, IS A PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO KEEP THE DIMOND COMMERCIAL AREA LITTER-FREE AND INVITING FOR BUSINESSES, CUSTOMERS AND THOSE ENJOYING THE PUBLIC REALM. IN ADDITION TO LITTER PICK-UP - KDC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING MORE THAN SIX TONS OF TRASH EVERY YEAR - THE EFFORT INCLUDES GRAFFITI REMOVAL AND PRESSURE WASHING OF FACADES, AWNINGS AND SIDEWALKS. ADDITIONAL BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMS FOCUS ON LANDSCAPING IMPROVEMENTS AND MAINTENANCE IN THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING PLANTING, WEEDING, AND MULCHING, AS WELL AS THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF PUBLIC ART, INCLUDING MURALS, MOSAICS AND SCULPTURE

THE DIA'S ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE IS FOCUSED ON BUILDING AND SUSTAINING THE ECONOMIC VITALITY OF THE DIMOND COMMERCIAL DISTRICT. THE DIA WORKS TO MARKET PROPERTIES IN COOPERATION WITH LANDLORDS AND OWNERS, AND TO ASSIST POTENTIAL TENANTS AND OWNERS BY CONNECTING THEM TO APPROPRIATE CITY, COUNTY AND BUSINESS RESOURCES. WE ALSO INVEST CONSIDERABLE RESOURCES INTO DRIVING RETAIL TRAFFIC TO THE COMMERCIAL CORE THROUGH EVENTS SUCH AS OAKTOBERFEST - WHICH SHOWCASES THE DIMOND NEIGHBORHOOD AND LOCALLY-CRAFTED BEER AND FOOD - AND SUMMER MOVIE NIGHTS - WHICH PRESENTS FAMILY-FRIENDLY FILMS OUTSIDE THE BRANCH LIBRARY THROUGH THE SUMMER AND EARLY FALL.

THE ORGANIZATION'S PUBLIC SAFETY EFFORTS WORK TO DETER AND RESPOND TO CRIME IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PANHANDLING AND HOMELESS PERSONS IN THE COMMERCIAL AREA, SO THAT MERCHANTS, RESIDENTS, AND SHOPPERS CAN ENJOY THE DIMOND AND FEEL SAFE AS THEY VISIT, PATRONIZE OR JUST PASS THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE COMMITTEE IS ALSO WORKING ON PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLE, AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY - PRIORITIES THAT EMERGED WHEN THE COMMITTEE CONDUCTED ITS FIRST-EVER DIMOND PUBIC SAFETY SURVEY TO GATHER FEEDBACK FROM THE COMMUNITY ON THE SAFETY ISSUES MOST IMPORTANT TO THEM.
