EARTHGEN ENVISIONS THAT EVERY SCHOOL WILL TEACH, MODEL, AND PRACTICE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND EVERY YOUNG PERSON WILL LEARN AND GROW IN A GREEN AND HEALTHY SCHOOL. EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 18, 2020, THE ORGANIZATION CHANGED ITS NAME FROM WASHINGTON GREEN SCHOOLS TO EARTHGEN.

CLIMATE EDUCATION: EARTHGEN PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCES FOREDUCATORS TO TEACH STUDENTS ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE, ITS LOCAL IMPACTS, AND SOLUTIONS. DRIVEN BY THE STATE SCIENCE STANDARDS, THE PROGRAM STRENGTHEN STUDENTS AND TEACHERS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. EARTHGEN COLLABORATES WITH EDUCATORS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS, SCIENTISTS, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO MAKE CLIMATE CHANGE LEARNING AND ACTION ACCESSIBLE AND RELEVANT FOR YOUTH AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE.


ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE UNITS: EARTHGENS SCIENCE UNITS HELP TEACHERS INCREASE STUDENTS ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AND BUILD THEIR CRITICAL THINKING, COLLABORATION, AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS IN CULTURALLY RELEVANT WAYS. ONE EXAMPLE IS ZOMBIE GUACAMOLE, A SERIES OF HANDS-ON LESSONS IN WHICH STUDENTS EXPLORE THE FOOD SYSTEM AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS. OTHER UNITS, INCLUDING ENERGY MATTERS AND BREATHING EASIER ENGAGE STUDENTS IN LEARNING AND ACTION PROJECTS THAT ADDRESS LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.


STORMWATER STEWARDS: STORMWATER STEWARDS BUILDS STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR LOCALWATERSHEDS AND SOURCES OF POLLUTION, AND DESIGN GREEN STORMWATER SOLUTIONS THAT IMPROVE COMMUNITY HEALTH. TEACHERS RECEIVE RESOURCES AND TRAINING AND STUDENTS CONNECT WITH PROFESSIONALS FROM ENVIRONMENTAL CAREERS. SELECT SCHOOLS PARTNER WITH EARTHGEN TO INSTALL GREEN STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, SUCH AS RAIN GARDENS, ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
