FRIENDS OF HYALITE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE STEWARDHIP OF, ACCESS TO, AND SUPPORT FOR YEAR ROUND RECREATION IN HYALITE CANYON.IN OUR FY19 FISCAL YEAR (APRIL 1, 2018 TO MARCH 31, 2019) FRIENDS OF HYALITE HAD A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. LOCAL RETAILERS ROUND HOUSE SKI AND SPORTS CENTER AND CHALET SPORTS NOMINATED US TO RECEIVE GRANTS FROM PATAGONIA, WHICH ALLOWED US TO TACKLE ADDITIONAL STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS. WE PURCHASED 3 PALLET-SIZED FIRE RINGS AND OVER 60 TONS OF GRAVEL TO SPREAD AT HEAVILY USED SITES TO PROTECT SOILS AND WATER QUALITY. FRIENDS OF HYALITE'S BI-ANNUAL CLEAN UP DAYS CONTINUE TO BE SUCCESSFUL. WE HAD 95 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE IN OUR MAY 12, 2018 CLEAN UP DAY, HELPING TO REMOVE TRASH FROM DAY USE AREAS AND CLEAN CAMPFIRE RINGS. THE SUCCESS OF OUR CLEANUP DAYS HAS LED TO A DECREASE IN TRASH TO CLEAN UP, SO WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR FALL CLEANUP DAY TO INCLUDE STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS AS WELL. THE 45 VOLUNTEERS WHO ATTENDED OUR OCTOBER 21, 2019 CLEAN UP DAY HELPED TO SPREAD GRAVEL AND INSTALL NEW FIRE RINGS IN IMPACTED AREAS IN ADDITION TO PICKING UP TRASH AND CLEANING FIRE RINGS. ADDITIONAL PARTNERS IN THESE EFFORTS ARE THE US FOREST SERVICE AND CITY OF BOZEMAN, WHO PROVIDED A GARBAGE BIN AND COVERED DISPOSAL COSTS.OUR FUNDRAISING IN FY19 RAISED $7,631 SPECIFICALLY FOR WINTER ACCESS AND $7,917 OUR GENERAL FUND. WE CONTRIBUTED $10,000 TO ROAD PLOWING EFFORTS. FRIENDS OF HYALITE MAINTAINS A ROAD PLOWING FUND AND HAS COMMITTED TO CONTRIBUTING A MINIMUM OF $10,000 PER SEASON TO ASSIST THE GALLATIN COUNTY AND US FOREST SERVICE IN MAINTAINING WINTER ROAD PLOWING. WE HAVE ALSO EXPANDED OUR FUNDRAISING (AND EXPENDITURES) TO COVER ADDITIONAL SUMMER STEWARDSHIP WORK IN THE CANYON. IN JUNE 2018, WE PUBLISHED OUR FRIENDS OF HYALITE "SUMMER RECREATION MAP" COURTESY OF A GENERAL GRANT FROM REI. THE MAP WAS MADE AVAILABLE AT ABOUT A DOZEN LOCATIONS AROUND THE GREATER BOZEMAN AREA FOR A MODEST CONTRIBUTION OF $5. IN THE SPRING OF 2019 WE BEGAN UPDATING OUR WINTER RECREATION MAP, WHICH WILL BE COMPLETED AND AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THIS FALL. IN TOTAL, WE RAISED OVER $5,000 IN MAP SALES DURING FY19.
