ELEPHANT AID INTERNATIONAL (EAI)'S MISSION IS TO END THE WORLDWIDE SUFFERING OF ELEPHANTS BY CREATING INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO THE CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF ELEPHANTS IN CAPTIVITY. EAI GIVES HANDS-ON ASSISTANCE TO IMPROVE STANDARDS OF CARE; TEACHES HUMANE METHODS OF TRAINING AND HANDLING; RAISES PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE LIVES AND NEEDS OF ELEPHANTS.

EAI PROVIDED A VARIETY OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO DOZENS OF SCHOOLS, CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE UNITED STATES, INCLUDING PROVIDING EXPERT CONSULTING AND ADVICE ON ELEPHANT BEHAVIOR AND BIOLOGY TO STUDENTS, TEACHERS, LEGISLATORS AND OTHR NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS INTERNATIONALLY. EAI PROVIDED PRINTED MATERIALS USED IN SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES AND NEPAL. AND ALSO PROVIDED VOLUNTEER AND INTERN OPPORTUNITIES TO MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE.
IN 2016 EAI ESTABLISHED ELEPHANT REFUGE NORTH AMERICA ON 850 RURAL ACRES IN SOUTH GEORGIA, USA, TO BENEFIT OLD, SICK AND NEEDY ELEPHANTS RETIRED FROM ZOOS AND CIRCUSES. THEIS PROJECT PROVIDES A NATRAL-HABITAT ENVIRONMENT WHERE CAPTIVE-HELD ELEPHANTS CAN RECOVER FROM PAST TRAUMAS AND DEVELOP HEALTHY BONDS WITH CAREGIVERS AND OTHER RETIRED ELEPHANTS. THIS PROJECT IMPROVES ELEPHANT WELFARE THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL GOVERNMENTS, PRIVAATE OWNERS AND ELEPHANT CAREGIVERS. EAI WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION ABOUT CAPTIVE-HELD ELEPHANTS WORLDWIDE AND ADVOCACY FOR IMPROVED STANDARDS AND PRACTICES.
PROJECT ASIA. EAI IS UNIQUE IN ITS ABILITY TO BRING ABOUT CHANGE BOTH IN IMMEDIATE AND LONG-TERM. IT IS EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT ATARTS WITH A DEEP RESPECT FOR THE CULTURE AND THE REALITIES OF LIFE FOR ELEPHANTS IN ASIA. BY OFFERING HANDS-ON CARE SUCH AS PEDICURES, TEACHING HUMANE TRAINING METHODS, IMPROVING STABLE HYGIENE, DESIGNING AND BUILDING SOLAR-POWERED CHAIN-FREE CORRALS, AND PROVIDING COATS AND FOOD FOR HUNGRY ELEPHANTS, EAI QUICKLY MAKES THE LIVES OF CAPTIVE ELEPHANTS BETTER. EAI BUILDS SUSTAINABILITY INTO WORK IN TWO WAYS: FIRST BY PARTNERING WITH RESPECTED NGOS AND SECOND, BY ENSURING THAT MAHOUTS (ELEPHANT HANDLERS) AND ELRPHANT OWNERS HAVE THE KNOWLEDG AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO MAINTAIN THE IMPROVEMENTS.
