CREATE MORE HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS FOR PEOPLE IN THE WARREN COUNTY, NC REGION THROUGH STEWARDSHIP OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL ASSETS.

FOOD HUB: WE ARE PROUD TO OPERATE THE ONLY FRESH-CUT VEGETABLE PROCESSING FACILITY DESIGNED TO CONNECT SMALL AND LIMITED RESOURCE FARMERS TO INSITUTIONAL MARKETS IN OUR STATE. WE COMPLETED THE EXPANSION OF OUR FOOD HUB IN 2021, GROWING FROM 700 SQUARE FEET TO 3,700 SQUARE FEET, INCLUDING COLD STORAGE CAPACITY, AND HAVE BEGUN PROCESSING A WIDER RANGE OF LOCALLY GROWN VEGETABLES. WE HAVE ALSO PROVIDED WEEKLY DISTRIBUTIONS OF FRESH PRODUCE AND HEALTHY SCRATCH-MADE MEALS THAT HAVE REACHED MORE THAN 2,000 AREA RESIDENTS, PRIMARILY LOW-INCOME SENIORS.
FOOD SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT: WE HAVE CONTINUED TO LEAD REGIONAL FOOD SYSTEM PLANNING EFFORTS, WORKING WITH TWO COUNCILS OF GOVERNMENT TO DEVELOP AND ADVANCE REGIONAL FOOD SYSTEM STRATEGIES. WE HELPED TO LEAD A FOOD SYSTEM RESEARCH PROJECT THAT ENGAGED HUNDREDS OF RESIDENTS IN THE UPPER COASTAL PLAIN COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS.
WHAT'S GROWING ON: THROUGH OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS, WE REACHED MORE THAN 1,000 STUDENTS MONTHLY WITH HEALTHY EATING LESSONS, HEALTHY SNACKS, AND TAKE HOME ACTIVITIES. THESE MATERIALS PROMOTE FOOD SYSTEM LITERACY AND CONNECTIONS TO LOCAL, HEALTHY FOOD.
