HUMANE SOCIETY OF JEFFERSON COUNT WA OPERATES THE ONLY OPEN ADMISSION ANIMAL SHELTER IN THE COUNTY, ACCEPTING ALL LOST AND UNWANTED DOGS AND CATS. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING HOUSING, TRAINING AND MEDICAL CARE FOR THE ANIMALS IN ITS CARE WHILE THEIR OWNERS ARE BEING LOCATED OR WAITING FOR ADOPTION, HSJC PROVIDES OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES. THESE INCLUDE HUMANE EUTHANASIA AND CREMATION OF COMPANION ANIMALS, SPAY OR NEUTER OF DOGS AND CATS OF LOW INCOME FAMILIES ,LOW INCOME VACCINATION/MICROCHIP CLINICS AND PROVIDING DOG AND CAT FOOD TO THE FOOD BANKS.DURING THE YEAR 2020 536 CASES WERE OPENED FOR ALL SERVICES, 223 ANIMALS WERE ADOPTED AND 114 STRAY ANIMALS WERE RETURNED TO THEIR OWNERS. HSJC DOES NOT EUTHANIZE FOR LACK OF SPACE AND HAD A LIVE RELEASE RATE OF 94%.
