Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE HOUSE OF INDIA IS DEDICATED TOWARDS CREATING A GREATER AWARENESS OF INDIA'S RICH AND VARIED CULTURE IN THE SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY. THROUGH ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENTS ORGANIZED BY THE HOUSE OF PACIFIC RELATIONS, THE HOUSE PROMOTES, EDUCATES AND SHOWCASES INDIA'S ART, HISTORY, MUSIC, DANCE AND ETHNIC FOOD. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO SHARE THE JOY AND SPIRIT OF INDIAN TRADITIONS IN SAN DIEGO. THE HOUSE OF INDIA ALSO PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT WITH OTHER CULTURES AND PROMOTES UNIVERSAL UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION. OUR EVENTUAL GOAL IS TO BUILD AN INTERNAIONAL COTTAGE IN BALBOA PARK. THE COTTAGE WILL BE FURNISHED AND STAFFED BY GROUP MEMBERS THAT WILL OFFER VISITORS A DELIGHTFUL WINDOW INTO INDIA'S CULTURE, HISTORY AND TRADITIONS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
OUR MAIN EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO BUILD A HOUSE OF INDIA COTTAGE IN BALBOA PARK NEAR THE EXISTING COTTAGES UNDER THE HOUSE OF PACIFIC RELATIONS. WE HAVE BEEN VERY DILIGENT IN KEEPING OUR EYES FOCUSED ON OUR PURPOSE. THE SAN DIEGO CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE BUILDING OF THE COTTAGES AND WE CELEBRATED THE GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY ON NOVEMBER 19, 2016. WE WERE HOPING TO COMPLETE THE BUILDING OF OUR COTTAGE IN 2020. BUT THERE WERE MANY SETBACKS WITH THE HOUSE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS IN DEALING WITH CONSTRUCTION OF THE COTTAGE. WE FINALLY COMPLETED THE BUILDING IN 2021. WE HAD A SOFT OPENING CEREMONY ON AUGUST 28,2021. IT WAS A DAY OF CELEBRATION. DR. NAGENDRA PRASAD, CONSUL GENERAL OF INDIA AT SAN FRANCISCO WAS THE CHIEF GUEST OF THE CEREMONY. WE WERE ALSO HONORED TO HAVE TODD GLORIA, MAYOR OF SANDIEGO, TONI ATKINS, CALIFORNIA SENATOR PRO TERM, AND CHRIS CATE, MEMBER OF SAN DIEGO CITY COUNCIL. THE INDIAN COMMUNITY FROM ALL OVER SAN DIEGO CAME IN FULL FORCE TO CELEBRATE THE OCCASION.
COTTAGE HOSTING - WE OPEN THE COTTAGE FOR PUBLIC VIEWING AND ENJOYMENT EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM. WE ENCOURAGE THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO VISIT OUR COTTAGE AND ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS ON THE CULTURE, HISTORY, DANCE, MUSIC, ART AND OTHER INTERESTING ASPECTS OF INDIA.
DANDIYA UNDER THE STARS - DANDIYA IS A FAMOUS FESTIVAL IN INDIA. WE ENCOURAGE THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND THE INDIAN DIASPORA OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY TO VISIT THE COTTAGE AND BE PART OF THE DANDIYA DANCING. IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT OF DANCING, FOOD AND ENJOYMENT.
THE YEAR 2022 WAS A SIGNIFICANTLY REMARKABLE YEAR FOR THE HOUSE OF INDIA. WE COMPLETED THE BUILDING OF THE HOUSE OF INDIA COTTAGE IN BALBOA PARK DURING 2021. BUT WE HAD TO POSTPONE MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES, AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. BUT THE YEAR 2022 WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR AND WE WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE ALL THE PLANNED ACTIVITIES.
