CREARTE: AFTER 10+ YEARS, TIETONS SUMMER ART IN THE PARK PROGRAM HAS GROWN UP! WE HAVE EXPANDED IT TO OFFER HIGH QUALITY, CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMMING FOR K-12 KIDS IN THE UPPER YAKIMA VALLEY ALL YEAR LONG. THE PROGRAM IS NOW CALLED CREARTE, A POTMANTEAU OF CREATE+ART, THAT WORKS IN BOTH SPANISH AND ENGLISH. WE ARE PARTNERING WITH THE HIGHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CREATE EXPERIENCES THAT COMPLEMENT SCHOOL LESSONS IN BOTH CONTENT AND APPROACH. NEARLY ALL OF OUR AFTER SCHOOL, SUMMER, AND WEEKEND PROGRAMING FOR CREARTE HAPPENS AT OUR NEW PERMANENT HOME, THE TIETON FUELING STATION: 519 MAPLE STREET; TIETON, WA 98947
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, OR DAY OF THE DEAD, IS A VIBRANT COMMUNITY CELEBRATION HONORING BOTH LOS MUERTOS AND THE BEAUTY OF LIFE. DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATIONS BEGAN IN CENTRAL AMERICA, AND HAVE ROOTS IN INDIGENOUS AND CATHOLIC TRADITIONS. SWEET SUGAR SKULLS, BRIGHT COLORS AND BITTER-SMELLING CEMPAZUCHITL (CALENDULA, OR MARIGOLD) FLOWERS EVOKE VIBRANT, EPHEMERAL LIFE AND BITTER, INEVITABLE DEATH - EMBRACING BOTH. EACH YEAR TIETON ARTS & HUMANITIES CREATES ONE HUGE COMMUNITY ALTER AND WE INVITE EVERYONE TO ADD TO IT. 1000+ VISITORS BRING PHOTOS OF LOVED ONES, WRITE MESSAGES, AND BRING MEMENTOS, CANDIES, OR FOODS. 10X10X10: A JURIED EXHIBITION, TIETON ARTS & HUMANITIES INVITES ARTISTS TO SUBMIT WORK THAT IS NO LARGER THAN 10 INCHES BY 10 INCHES BY 10 INCHES. WORKS CAN BE OF ANY MEDIA OR PROCESS FROM PHOTO, PAINTING, PRINTMAKING, BOOK ARTS, VIDEO, CERAMIC, GLASS, METAL, WOOD, AND MORE. IN 2021, JURORS INVITED 187 SUBMISSIONS OF 875 RECEIVED FROM AROUND THE GLOBE, CREATING ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSE SHOWS IN THE YAKIMA VALLEY. INVITED ARTISTS RECEIVE A HANDMADE CATALOG CREATED BY LUCIA | MARQUAND SHOWCASING THE EXHIBITIONS ARTWORK. IN-PERSON AND ONLINE GALLERY SALES SUPPORT ARTISTS AND THE ORGANIZATION.
LITFUSE IS AN ANNUAL WEEKEND-LONG POETS WORKSHOP, WIDE-OPEN & WELCOMING TO POETS OF ALL AGES AND STYLES. PRESENTED IN SEPTEMBER OF EVERY YEAR, LITFUSE AIMS TO UNITE POETS FROM ALL OVER THE NORTHWEST AND BEYOND, TO OPEN US TO FRESH VOICES AND INSPIRATION, AND TO DEEPEN COMMUNITY WITH OUR FELLOW POETS AND ARTISTS. LAUNCHED IN MAY 2022, LITFUSE FUEL IS A FREE MONTHLY FEATURED READER/OPEN MIC SERIES AT THE FUELING STATION, TIETON ARTS & HUMANITIES NEW HOME. THE YAKIMA VALLEY STEAM ALLIANCE, A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS REPRESENTING SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUNDS AND DISCIPLINES WITHIN THE UPPER VALLEY, HAS TAKEN THE FIRST STEPS IN ESTABLISHING A PROGRAM TO GIVE OUR LOW-INCOME AND PRIMARILY LATINO YOUTH ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION AND RESOURCES.
